Bradford City v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion Thread

By Deadly Submarine
October 13 2013

If you can't make Tranmere's away game at Bradford City on Sunday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.

As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Stadium - Bradford City

Tranmere of course, travel to Bradford City in Sky Bet League One on Sunday afternoon so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?  You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

With many injuries to both sides it will finish a bore draw 1-1. Goody first scorer

A much needed and valuable win, lets hope we can build on the 3 points now.

Saw some of the action on SSN looked a fiery first half, their manager was having a go at goodi & lowe for a couple of incidents right in front of the dugouts. Don't know what was wrong with him their player ran into goody's elbow lol

Sparky should have been sent to the stands, but goodies should have been sent off also. Plus 3 stonewalling penalties turned down, the ref had a shocker, but then he is renowned for it. Sent Windass off previously when he was in the car park

Thought Parkinson was an absolute disgrace and should have been sent to the stands for the way he squared up to Goodison. Half wish Goody had chinned him.

No way was it a red card. He held their player back and was a yellow at most. The Bradford dug out and fans can scream and shout all they want but that doesn't make it a red card any day of the week. Will be interesting to see the replay.

Would like to say the ref got it right by showing Goody a yellow but how come he gave us the throw in and not them a free kick for Goodies alleged foul? Baffling.

Well done lads. Keep the faith. SWA

Great result and Bradford gans should just get over it. I saw the BBC stats and Bradford had about 6 or 7 more chances than Tranmere, but only bagged 1 more on the money so they can't complain really, as Tranmere had enough chances to get something and did.

It's a bit of justice I feel for the way the referee at Port Vale marred the result with that poor sending off.

Hopefully Tranmere can kick on and get another 4-6 points from the next 2 games. With the defence doing better recently, there's a better chance of that sort of thing now.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

With that ref I am surprised he didn't send Hanson off. Fair play to Tranmere, you took your chance, but it would have been nice to have an impartial ref - (he wasn't any better for you guys), referee the game based on the rules and not some agenda he has.

One of those frustrating days when the mixture of a 'park the bus' side and an inept ref led to a result that no one would have believed! We can all debate the Goodison incident til we are blue in the face but facts are trainers got a smash and grab with a ref that would not have seen time wasting if he was slapped with a large sticker right in front of the eyes! He was a disgrace but well done try mere the result doesn't lie!

Parkinson was an utter disgrace. HE caused the fracas in the Goodison incident when he ran up to him and pushed Goodison who pushed him back. Then he overreacted when Lowe nudged one of the Bradford players into him like a cannon in a game of billiards. At the end he stormed off up the steps while everybody else [his team included] were still shaking hands.Talk about throwing his dummy away and toys out of the pram.

Park the bus? BBC stats at halftime had tranmere with at least three times the efforts on goal than Bradford. Until Tranmere scored, they were well ahead on shots on goal. Then I guess it was less 'park bus' more 'prevent the inevitable shots on goal from the home team'. As for possession, stats had both teams pretty even for most of the match.

Can someone from Tranmere let me know if BBC got the stats wrong and we didn't have more attempts than Bradford in the first half, with Bradford only having two wide attempts.

Stats on ceefax are often wrong and prove nothing. For example if you hit the woodwork 3 times that counts as 3 shots off target. And yes-I was there.

Bradford just cant beat teams who play the way tranmere did today

Tranmere did what any good lower league team who's low on confidence should do - they got up in the opposition's faces and roughed them up. Bradford were clearly rattled by the way the players and managers reacted to some of the tackles and to Goodison's block (which was nothing more in my opinion, and would have been nothing more if it had been the other way round).

Did Rovers time waste? Yes. Would any team who's bottom of the league and in dire need of a point(s) do the same? Yes.

Rovers were - as pointed out above - desperate for a result. Ronnie Moore needed something out of the game, his job was on the line. He got his team to put in effort and commitment and asked them to battle for every ball, which they did.

In many ways, it was the perfect away performance. They sat back when necessary and pushed forward on the counter attack when they could. The fact that Tom Hately, our defensive midfielder, had three shots from 20-yards out suggests that we didn't "park the bus", because he was obviously getting forward.

We used the long ball a fair bit - so did Bradford - and most of it was gobbled up by the giant centre back. But at the end of the day, we defended admirably. Goodison and Taylor were superb and I was impressed by Danny Holmes.

My question to you is WHY can't you beat teams who play in that manner? You've got a team of giants - many of them who look like they gone through a few maulings before (the aforementioned centre-back and Hanson to name just two).

That should play right into your hands! It's a proper brand of football - not the most attractive but enjoyable to watch and pleasurable when it works - and that type of fight and battle is a major reason behind your league cup run last year (as it was for us in 2000).

So if anyone's to blame (referee made some poor decisions for both sides but personally didn't think any of the penalty shouts were that clear cut), I'd question why your players didn't stand up to that battle.

As an asides - very impressed with Kyle Reid. Thought he caused all sorts of problems, regularly beat his man and floated wonderfully across the back four. He just didn't release the ball quick enough.

Ha Ha, makes our win even better with all these Bradford fans coming on the board. They had a good year last year and I applauded them for their efforts in the league cup but at the end of the day they have spent years in the lowest level of the football league, couple of years back they were getting 4000 crowds, today 14,000, just goes to show how fickle their fans are, no doubt they will loose the extra 10,000 fans as they tumble down this division, also proved today how relient they are on certain players, something all league 1 teams suffer from. Lets see what the league looks like in February.
Brilliant result today, well done to Ronnie and the boys, made my weekend.

All fans have rose tinted glasses about their clubs, all clubs time waste when winning and if say you dont you're a fibber.
And most players go down at the slightest touch nowadays and roll round floor as if dying.

Good result but now we need to build on it and get more points on the board, a win every couple months wont keep us up.

True but it's always good when you get an unexpected win like this and especially when the home fans and management get so wound up about it. Most of them[there are a few sane exceptions] seem just as bitter about it this morning.

Bradford fan here. I'll admit when I got home yesterday I was annoyed at a lot of things, however, looking back at the game I'll admit that in reality we probably didn't do enough to win the game and despite not necessarily agreeing with Tranmere's tactics myself, you executed them well with ample success - so congratulations for that. Anyway our highlights are out and I reckon everyone should watch them (link below) - in all honesty, tell me that the 'forearm smash' wouldn't rile you if it had happened to one of your players. I've seen people sent off for much less before...

There was nothing in it other than shielding the ball out. Unless your player got shot from the Stand on that side he went down far too easily.

Parkinson seems totally innocent in all of this despite clearly shoving Goodison in the chest. I hope retrospective action is taken against him.

Totally agree-some of them are calling it a forearm smash some are calling it an elbow!! Parkinson was the person who caused the fracas, nobody else.

Fao kiws - I came on here last night to congratulate you on your game plan and victory and also disagree with some of the BCFC fans comments however this my friend is a laughable post. Fickle fans !! We've averaged well over 5 figure crowds in the last 7 years in the khazi league , admittedly our season tickets are only 200 quid but I think averaging 15k each week is pretty good going for league 1. I guess it's a while sinse rovers got that many eh ?
In addition I think we will bring 4 x your paltry 400 when we make the short 70 mile return journey.

So like I say credit for yesterday's win but easy on the fickle fans comments

Oddly elements of this thread really echo that of last week about luck/bad luck. Supporters of defeated teams often think that it is bad luck and those that win think it is deserved.

The win is great but we need a good run before we can remotely justifying crowing.

The debate about the number of supporters is sterile. I have seen non league clubs with gates of 500 where support is full of passion and games with 40,000 where there has been no passion from supporters

Having seen how full the other stands were, particularly the one at the opposite end from us[how high does that go?] I would have to agree wholeheartedly with City Loyal's comments. Their fans are very unhappy at yesterday's events[many excessively]but the word 'fickle' is unfair.

Their attendances I think were the biggest in league 2 in all their time they were there and even Swindon a couple of years back got around 7,500 I think, which was 3,000 less the Bradford.

Some Bradford fans may be grumpy, but it does sound like sour grapes and misrepresenting their clubs image.

I don't think Tranmere will go down anyway, as 5 out of the last 7 games have seen 2 concessions, both from deadballs not open play, so if that kind of defending persists, the team will have a good chance of recovering some form providing the goals come a bit more easily.

I'm not convinced Goodison deliberately caught their player as he's not even looking at him when does it, as opposed to taking a sneeky peek at him just beforehand, as if possibly trying to see where the ref is before the incident.

He deserved a yellow for that but not a red, but he was carded for shoving Parkinson when the ref didn't didn't spot the original shove by Parkinson.

As for Phil Parkinson, he's a good manager, but running at Goodison like a scalded cat didn't looks smart, even if he was agrieved for his player, he needs to show more constraint.

As for Tranmere allegedly parking the bus, when you're playing away from home against form sides, then 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 can be a good thing, because why should Ronnie go 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, let Bradford have a 2, 3, 4-0 win and then have to say you can't defend like that against teams like Bradford.

The sour grape types need to get over it and focus on their teams next game.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Parkinson has now apparently appealed for ''protection for his flair players'' in the wake of the Goody ''incident''. How about other teams' players being given protection against his actions?

And yes, they're still whinging about last Sunday.

Look at the sky video . Just before he runs onto goodison, he puts his arms up. The speed he comes in at makes a collision inevitable. His reaction was that of an actor pretending to be hurt. No sympathy from me.
