Rotherham United v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion Thread

By Deadly Submarine
October 22 2013

If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Rotherham United on Tuesday evening, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.

As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Fans at Bristol Rovers

Tranmere of course, travel to Rotherham United in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday evening so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?  You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

(Sm151)(Sm151)I've got a nasty feeling that we'll be lucky to get nil.......but I live in hope that we'll actually come away with a 2-1 win and keep 11 players on the pitch

As I can't go tonight[missus not too well, last train from Rotherham means I'd have to leave 10-15 mins from end to catch it ,don't fancy driving back over the Woodhead pass in the pitch black and predicted heavy rain, lack of parking near ground[apparently]etc],I'll be relying on your on the spot reports again.smiling smiley

I fancy a 0-0 here. We always seem to get a result wherever the crowd hate Ronnie. I understand that the opinion is split in Rotherham so hopefully the haters are out in full voice tonight!

Half time stats make for pretty grim reading.

Surely professional and personal pride has to kick in for the second half?

My Mrs reckons we'll win 1-0...but I think she's trying to appease me as she wants me to make a brew.

Now that we have a point we need to build on it because when we beat Oldham we lost to fleetwood, when we drew with Stevanage we lost the next game the Brentford. When we beat Bradford the next game we got slaughtered by Leyton Orient, hopefully the pattern won't continue after drawing tonight. Valuable point tho. #SWA

Well that was hard work. Watching the team at the moment is nerve wracking. Lets be honest they were better than us for the first hour at least. Just as they were getting frustrated we left a man unmarked in the box 1-0 I was impressed with Ronnie's subs. We looked good going forward last 15 minutes. Definitely a penalty and at 1-1 I thought we could have had another. Happy with a point away from home. Again no doubting the effort from the team. The quality is another story. Onwards and upwards.

A great point and based on the second half we deserved it. We could even have been won it after we scored as we suddenly piled forward!

Well done to the lads on a 7th point away from home!

First half we really struggled - couldn't get clsoe to their floating midfielders and allowed too many shots from distance. But at least they were restricted to efforts from outside the box.

There also seemed to be a severe lack of intent, with our outlet constantly being to lump the ball out to the left-wing to Kirby. Now Jake did well, don't get me wrong. He was our most creative player, ran at them and got a couple of crosses into the box. But, he's also one of our smallest and slightest players, so despite often being the only one who'll jump, he's always going to lose more headers than he wins.

Second half I thought we were much improved, we showed a little more attacking intent and although this left us open at the back at times, Holmes and Taylor made some excellent tackles and blocks to mainly keep the ball away from fon Williams.

The goal was shocking defending. How their man was left in the position he was, and onside, was horrific. Even more so was our defence waited for a whistle for two seconds, allowing Agard time to control the ball before scoring.

But once Baggie and Stockton came on I felt the game changed in our favour.

Abs showed what he's really capable of (he really should have started on such a big pitch). He ran at them, was direct and caused problems. He did brilliantly to win the penalty and created a few more chances too.

As for Cole - he made such a big difference. He roughed them up, and also made sure that when the ball went forward, it stayed there, if only for a few seconds. Again, he was crucial in winning the penalty, whilst he had a couple of chances and having two men upfront added that extra dimension to our game.

In fact, having Abs on was effectively three men up top, because he drifted in behind as well as down the flanks.

Back to Cole though - I love watching him play. Still wet behind the ears of course, but so direct, and it's a pleasure to see. Not scared to shoot and a real handful. As I say, him and Abs changed the game.

A good point. A well taken penalty from Lowe. But I think we could have sneaked it if we'd turned up in the first half, when Owain fon Williams kept us in it.

Not being able to attend mid week games due to the logistics of travelling up from the south it is nice to have a concise report of events. Thank you Matt. However I see on the BBC site that the Rotherham manager states one of our players should have been shown a straight red for ellbowing! If this is the case, were we lucky or is it just sour grapes on there behalf? Also who is the player in question?

Re: Rotherham United v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion Thread

The player in question is Stockton, who got yellowed for the incident just seconds after coming on. I felt there was little in it (certainly less than the Goody incident at Bradford). He jumped for the ball and used his arms to elevate himself upwards. He also however jumped backwards, taking the man out with his back. Steve Evans and the rest of the Millers claimed it was an elbow.

Although I didn't see it at the time I'm told that the Radio reported one of their players should have been sent off for kicking out at Max Power anyway!

A good result considering the big difference in the number of shots from both teams and on another day if Tranmere were playing a team limited to 9 or 10 shots, a clean sheet might have happened and then with a few more attacks forward a win might occur in such a situation.

At times the defending this season has been good since Foster left, but it isn't as consistent as it should be. You lose Foster conceed 0 in 2, then concede 5 open play goals from the next 2, followed by no open play goals from your next 3 and Leyton Orient goes Pete Tong a bit.

The back lines need to be good to go each week, if the forward lines are not going to get a truck load of goals, but hopefully Jennings can provide soem added meat going oforwards and if Wallace can get installed again or Koumas cna slot in with Jennings and then Hateley tucking in behind there's more hope now I feel. 4 points from 9 is good and I'm just waiting for the first run of 6 points from 2 games to come, as I feel once the team can get at least that level of form now and then, they can stay up, however teams who cannot manage even two straight wins are nearly always destined to fail.

I hope some impetus is taken from this result and MK get beaten.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

we played awful first half second half we went at them when we went one down which they didnt like. i think if we had had gone at the from the start we would of won the game. and right at the end when baggie went round the keeper then went down do we think that was a peno?
