Trust Campaign Receives Sizeable Supporter Donation

The ongoing Supporters Trust campaign to take over the Club receives a generous donation from a lifelong supporter to help boost their bid to take over the running of the Club.....
A lifelong Tranmere Rovers supporter who has donated a five-figure sum to the Tranmere Rovers Trust has called on all Rovers fans to back the Trust's bid to take the Prenton Park club into community ownership. Peter Scorer aged 62, believes it is 'now or never' for supporters who have yet to back the Trust's campaign to raise £500,000 by the end of 2013.
Peter who is resident of Prenton, has made a five-figure contribution to the campaign, believes that supporter ownership is the best option for the long-term future of the club.
Speaking yesterday, Peter said…
"As supporters, it's now or never and we need to raise the money as soon as we can. We all have a duty to help the Trust so that as supporters we can take the reins of our club. Peter Johnson has done a fantastic job and the Trust is the best group to carry on that good work. We can make sure the club is in the right hands.”
"Every pound counts. I know times are tough but no matter how much you can afford, it all makes a difference. Every pound could be important and it is so easy to donate."
Peter has been a Tranmere supporter for more than 50 years, but only moved back to the Wirral recently after spending more than 40 years living in Kent. Having retired from his career as a secondary school teacher, he returned to live in the area primarily to rekindle his love affair with Rovers.
The Trust, which began its campaign to take Tranmere Rovers into community ownership in August 2011, insists the time has come for supporters to back their bid.

A £12,000 donation, so that's nearly half of the £25,000 raised in 10 days. Doesn't bode well in my opinion

Hopefully it's in addition to that figure. If you count all the people just on this website and the cowsheds that have said that they have signed up since the last meeting it would probably come to more than £13,000.
I agree that it 't still doesn't bode well though if this kind of figure is getting in the news, as generous as it is. The trust have said that we are relying on big donations and if so far we only have one for £12,000 we're still a long, long way off.

What the running costs are (without extraordinary cost for refurbishment)?
What the annual income is?
What £500,000 will be used for ? to pay off PJ? If so what money is there to meet running costs.

At the last trust meeting meeting they said that last season Johnson had to put in £350,000 of his own money to keep the club going. I believe that the figure of £500,000 is roughly what's needed to keep Tranmere afloat for a season with a bit extra just in case and hopefully after that the Trust can being to generate enough extra revenue and/or cut costs sufficiently to reduce the annual loss to zero. It's a big ask!

£500,000 is working capital.
Annual income and running cost of what, the whole club? Year end June 2012 we made a net profit of £207,000, turnover was £3.35m

I didnt really feel the trust have been that fowards in the ideas for running and making us profitable the past couple of years, seem to of been of few ideas with no real depth thrown about, but on the whole a little too quiet with the info and what they could hope to do. And i feel too little too late unfortunatley.

On another site theres an update to say that PJ will write off his debt, wont take the car park or Ingleborough and that there are 2 other interested parties who nobody knows who they are. The update is from one of the trust committee.

I wonder what he would have do with the car park anyway if he'd chosen to keep it? I mean you probably don't wake up next morning and think I had a football club yesterday, but hey at least to ay I car park whoo hoo, then have to spend a lot of time and money trying to work out what to do with it and getting the planning permission and I don't think he'd have just dumped a load of parking meters there and charged Tranmere fans 50p to park.
I imagine the altenative uses for a car park that backs onto a football club are not plentiful, unless you could build something like a hotel, or a small travelodge or a Tesco Express and keep some of the parking intact.
I think maybe the trust could possibly consider that; having something like a Sainsbury local there, keep some of the parking for shoppers and then have a permit scheme, which means if you're a Tranmere fan you can buy a permit, then some of the spaces would be reserved for permit holders to park in on matchdays only, assuming the planning permission went through and the required size of the project fitted in with the parameters of the car park.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Not Sainsburys ! Tesco have that corner of the market just along the road, neec, say Aldi ?> Lodle ?!?!?!? or, what's that other on ? Home something ?!? :-)

How about a home and bargains on the side of the ground and they build us a new main stand with boxes and new bars for revenue. They sponsor the ground and put their loggo on the stands. If the put a million a year into wages and they get the publicity from the club doing well. It's a good way for a home bargain to advertise and it's also cheaper than advertising on tv. Plus they would have a supper store home and bargains win win all round.

Some fans might not be too keen though on stadium naming and it could risk alienating a few people.
Newcastle fans didn't like the rebranding thing and I think that's gone now and it's St James' Park again.
However it could be a good thing, but maybe a compromise on the idea could be reached where you name one stand and get some money from a stand sponsor. If you name the away stand you won't bother any home fans and possible alienate them.
That could be a short-term thing, because if you could even get £250,000 for it, based on a £1,000,000 stadium rights deal, assuming that's possible at all, that could be £150,000 a season for trust spending if they get in and £100,000 for the managers budget.
Then if there was no apparent anymosity for the idea once implemented perhaps extend the idea to the whole stadium, either by having one stadium sponsor or different sponsors per stand.
Alternatively poll the fans to see who would welcome naming rights and who be dead agaisnt it and see how badly doing it could hurt the fanbase.

Oh I see, right, yes I've seen that before and that would make sense, as it keeps the identity of the ground whilst making it a more servicable revenue stream.
