Coventry Reminded of Sixfields Massacre in Solid Rovers Win

The last time John MacMahon took charge of Rovers was in a 6-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle in 2003, but the stand in manager wasn't prepared to let things slip out of control for a second time as his side restored some positivity in a convincing 3-1 win which gave Rovers their first three points since February 1st where a late Ryan Lowe goal was enough to seal victory against MK Dons...
Our visitors are no strangers to Tranmere, the last time the two sides met ended in a crushing defeat for the Sky Blue's as Ryan Lowe's hat-trick as well as goals from Jake Kirby and James Wallace earnt Tranmere an awe-inspiring 5-1 victory at City's temporary Sixfields home in Northampton. Today would see the same three players come back to haunt them.
The game started promisingly for Rovers who's sublime passing display and chance creating held a decent Coventry side off for the first five minutes. After an initial show of dominance, the game evened out with the Sky Blues creating a myriad of chances before Jordan Clarke conceded a penalty which Ryan Lowe converted to give Rovers the lead. Steven Pressley's men still fought on and came close a number of times forcing Owain Fon Williams into some sterling saves before the half time whistle went.

Just two minutes into the second half and Rovers found themself 2-0 ahead when a Jason Koumas free kick found James Wallace who headed home, it was later said that Conor Thomas had turned the ball into his own net. After conceding a second City seemed stoic and showed some prowess, forcing attacks whilst retaining possession . Coventry's dominance was frustrating for John MacMahon's men, but the tables were soon to turn when Jake Kirby put the icing on the cake after he tapped in from a Kennedy cross to give Coventry a mountain to climb; Jake Cassidy found himself one on one with former Rovers keeper Joe Murphy who managed to save the Welshman's effort with his feet, however the ball fell to Kennedy who played it across the goal to Kirby who tapped home.
Rovers saw out the the rest of the game as the imperious side, creating chance after chance as well as showing another superb passing display. After a perfect afternoon, Tranmere were finally out done when City's when Michael Petrasso's effort earnt them a consolation.
