Tranmere Rovers v Bradford City Match Discussion

By Deadly Submarine
May 1 2014

If you can't make Tranmere's vital game at home to Bradford City on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too. As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Tranmere of course, host Bradford City for a vital game on Saturday afternoon in Sky Bet League One, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on? You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live. What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

I hope we get a big crowd to cheer us on to a victory.
I also hope we get to see John Coleman in the stands, he would be an excellent manager for us.

JUst give us 100%
Is it too much to play a team that is fit, and that all the players give full effort.
Basics -
Loose the ball - try and win it back - defend from the front.
Corners - beat the first man - somebody attack the back post.
Free kicks - get it on target (if they stand in front of the ball, kick it at them to get them a booking)
Run at your man, look for space, try and hit the dead ball line.
JM if you need to use the substitutes proactively.
Coaching staff - get in the ear of the 4th official as much as they do.
Attack, and get your shots off.
Not asking much!

I must say any player not giving their all today should be released from the club no matter who they are. We need all 11 players fighting for this win.......

After 46 games you pretty much finish up where you belong. For 15 months this club has been a joke. Enough said.

Totally agree we have gone on a run of only 12 wins in the league in 15months .the management ie Moore and hapless McMahon have totally lost the plot .moore had to go for what he did .but for god sake McMahon was never going to keep us up .he is is not a manager and never will be .our so called board have shown that they are inept when it comes to running a club . Said before and will say again you pay poundland money you get put in the basement .and now that's where we are .and if the club don't get its act together then we will go the way of Chester and Luton to name just two .its all very we'll keep asking all turn up get behind the team .dont they relies we have only a hard core fan base of about 4500 .the rest are glory hunters only come when we are winning and the rest are plastic Liverpool and Everton supporters ,just look at the town centre on match days full of Liverpool and Everton shirts .we are now a league two side and will be for a long time .we wil struggle again next season cos the club have no real ambition and that's showed over the last 6 years .just look at there choice of managers" Watson Barnes parry Moore twice ,does not set the heart raceing does it .i travel a500 mile round trip and will more than likely still do it next season .but good god when will the club give it's long suffering fans something to smile about .get the dead wood out fresh guys in new ideas and rebuild our tired and battered club .

Why the hell did it take him so long to make a substitution? We must have played about an hour with 10 men. I know the result was academic in the end, but McMahon wasn't to know that. They made all 3 subs before we made any of ours.

Its not just the last 9 months we have been a club in decline for several years apart from a blip of 6 months in 2012-13.
This is due lack of investment and poor management from top to bottom, this will not change and I can see us being near the bottom of league 2 next season, we are no bigger than stockport or wrexham, luton and northampton and we will struggle on less money and smaller gates next season.

just look at there choice of managers" Watson Barnes parry Moore twice

Luton had financial problems, probably of their own making. you don't get deducted 30 points just because you go down; it has to be more than just that, so I wouldn't class them in the same bracket as Chester.

As for Moore, when he nearly got Tranmere in the playoffs with Kay, Coyne and Chorley to name a few, he looked like a good choice, in fact it looked to many like a stupid choice to sack him, especially when the next 2 managers couldn't deliver such sustained form.

Moore looked like a good choice, when he got Tranmere away from danger and finished 12th after Parry got binned, but since that point time, mixed player recruitment and some questionable tactics made his appointment look poor this season.

I still believed last year, after the club finished 1 place higher than the previous season, that he had some merit, because the likes of Parry and Little failed to get top 12 once by a seasons end, let alone in 2 consecutive seasons, but Moore proved this season he couldn't be the one, although he couldn't have foreseen Foster's skullduggery, the recruitment was mixed in the main and not consistent enough.

Today was a bitter blow especially because Brown got sent off and it proved to be a potential catalyst for the failure to win, but I know Tranmere were briefly safe when Oldham scored, but a penalty for Notts and an Oldham sending off put paid to that.

I think Tranmere can bounce back next season and be promote, but demoting McMahon to coach, or simply binning him and some other changes must be made, or Tranmere will tread water in league 2 and not look as progressive as I think they could be.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

The one positive I can take out of today's game is how well mooney played. It was just nice to see a goalkeeper in command of his area and able to kick in a straight line. It's fair to say that Fonners has cost us a few points this season and I would like to see mooney retained and him let go. It may sound harsh I know but I'm sick and tired of watching him routed to his line and defenders panicking in front of him because he's no control of his area. Great keeper when your winning but utterly useless if your not.

Didn't think we played too bad today, thought we started the game well and were disciplined enough When we went down to ten men but eventually they broke us down. Couldn't see the sending off really but it didn't look that bad to me. Thought jones for them was lucky to stay on as that tackle on goody was nasty.

Also, I may be on my own here but I was rather annoyed with the way their fans took absolute pleasure in our relegation. Don't know what we've done wrong to them to be honest but I'm hoping that in the future the boot is on the other foot. However, fair play for the 7 minute applause, that was very nice to see.

Fon Williams nay leave anyway, but the fact is I applaud him for staying when he had the chance to leave and no doubt for better money.

If the guy had left for better money, that would potentially have dampened the argument for Mooney over him, because then people could have said that with enough games, would Mooney look good enough to go somewhere else for at least the same if not more money?

If the answer was yes fair enough, but if the answer was no, it would potentially say more about Fon than Mooney.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

The tackle on Goody was not nasty. In fact he hardly touched him.Goody looked as if he twisted something as he went down.

he has clearly made mistakes but he has written off £5 million debt and still put in large sums of money to keep the club afloat so to be critical is just wrong.

Totally agree re Mooney.
I think it is pertinent to note that he appeared to give the defence a lot more confidence.
Don't forget that before he arrived, Fonners had the reputation of being a bit of a dodgy keeper - certainly not the case last season, but we have seen too many chinks in his armour this year.
My fear is that if the present management team are allowed to make the end of season decisions Mooney will be released - before they are!

too many loan signings and not giving the youth enough pitch time! Simple as that. Looking at Max Power after the match I think if the kids have the same passion for the club - get them in the team! Id rather see the youth given chance to grow as a team.

We didn't take pleasure at all in being part of Tranmeres relegation and have no problem at all but in short what conspired against you is:

1) We hate Ronnie Moore. He has been a hate figure since his Rotherham days. When we struggled financially he said he hoped we were chucked out of the league only for his beloved Rotherham to go the same way.

2) Moore's tactics at Valley Parade he came to spoil the game and fair play you got the late goal and won a game of anti football. Your fans took great pleasure letting us know via twitter to which they were warned we play each other last game of the season.

3) Ian Goodison clearly elbowed Kyle Reid at VP shockingly he wasn't sent off he was defended by Moore and got lippy on twitter. Draw your own conclusions why he was elbowing someone in front of the 4th official it's not for me to speculate.

4) the football factory mob in front of us yesterday singing you're a town full of pak*s. Also flicking lighters eluding to the fire disaster.

That's why.

Bantams away
Points 1&2 fine
Point 3 - Goody is a legend to us, as Booby Campbell is to many of your fans , he was no angel on or off the pitch - BC was just as physical (on and off the ball) get over it. The gripe is with the referee I think.
Point 4 - No apologies re the conduct of your fans, with their stereotypical chanting (never get a job, I want to go home)
- people in glass houses.

And for the sake of clarity - is there a nice part of Bradford?
the outskirts of Valley Parade is a dump, and whilst I do not deny that parts of Birkenhead were in a similar condition, the surroundings of Prenton Park are like Mayfair in comparison!

Bradford stayed up, Tranmere didn't.

Both clubs must now concentrate on their own futures.
