Rovers Sign Midfielder Laird

Tranmere Manager Rob Edwards secures his sixth signing of the summer as midfielder Marc Laird joins the squad ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.....
Another new addition to the Rovers squad was confirmed today with the announcement that midfielder Marc Laird has today joined the club on a one-year contract to become new Manager Rob Edwards' sixth new addition so far this summer. The midfielder’s deal comes into immediate effect and he will be available for the pre-season friendlies next week.
The 28 year old began his career in Manchester City’s youth system and via spells at Millwall and Leyton Orient he then fund himself at Southend United for whom he signed two seasons ago. To date he has scored 14 goals in almost 200 career appearances.

Laird has been training with the first team squad at Raby Vale over the last week and has impressed manager Rob Edwards who speaking of the new signing said earlier today.....
“I’m really pleased Marc has agreed to join us. He’s shown his commitment to the Club by coming in and training with us for a week. He’s got a great attitude and someone who will add fantastic fitness levels and know-how to our midfield. He’ll really complement the other players we’ve got in that department.”
Laird joins other new arrivals Kayode Odejayi, Marcus Holness, Michael Ihiekwe, Eliot Richards and Matt Gill.

Latest signing is Marc Laird, a 28 year old midfielder who's had spells with Millwall, Leyton Orient and Southend.
He began his career at Manchester City.

another signing ive had to google, he dosent get me excited, and he`s only averaged 21 games a season over 8 years, another one we`ll have to have a look at

Got a good friend who is a millwall fan,said he started off very well there and influenced a lot of games,but then faded so hope we get the first laird and not the 2nd part.

Good comments on the Southend fan site. Sounds like he was a decent player but not the manager's favourite. On the downside, I assume we can say goodbye to Jennings.

I knew who he was from before and was most enthusiastic about him. So far I think he and Holness are the vest signings to date and I'm happier with the shape of the squad now.

i dont understand what people expect the signings we have made have mostly been positive signings for me and im liking the squad we are bringing together

We are shopping in the bargain basement these days, so R.E had a good look at Laird before he chose to sign him.
He's obviously proven himself in training and I notice that he's only signed a 12 month deal.
Good move in my opinion as he isn't just bringing in bods to fill the Club Coach on Away Days.

Know nothing about him, but he's a fairly experienced player so I can't really complain. You'd have to assume he's slated for the heart of the midfield.

Other posts have questioned the number of games Marc has played considering the length of his career which, is fair comment however, if you look into the stats more its pretty good.
Kenny Jackett the then Millwall manager signed him from Man City and he was a regular in their promotion side in league 1 and played some games in the championship. On leaving he signed for Leyton Orient and Russell Slade was also complimentary about him.
Finally, last season he played 30+ games for Southend who reached the playoff's, reading between the lines it looks like he fell out with Phil Brown (no surprise there then)
I feel he is a good signing but, like all the new signings will need time.

If RE proves to be a good motivator a la Brendan Rogers, then the 'whole.... blahdebah' could happen. No doubt about dat. At least I will be happy not to hear that phrase this season lol

Personally I want RE to be a good manager first and foremost. Aldo was a good motivator, great at getting players to perform in big games, not so good at getting them to perform consistently well in every game.
I couldn't say how good Brendan Rogers is at the moment, at least until I see how well his team can perform under the pressure of expectation this year, with cup and champs league distractions. He didn't have any of that last season. I suspect Reds might end up quite disenchanted by the end of the coming season.

Last time there were lots of lies bandied about with regards to Ronnie aswell and they were also lies.
He rubs some people up with uos management style and people with agendas make up internet lies to justify it.
Its good to see the players seem happy and motivated and that's what I am hearing also.
