Tranmere confirm that former trialist McDonald with join the squad for the new campaign....
Tranmere Manager Rob Edwards made a late addition to his Rovers squad today as the new season fast approaches by signing former trialist defender Clayton McDonald, intially on a non-contract basis.
The 25 year old central defender has been on trial at Prenton Park for the past few weeks, taking part in a number of pre-season friendlies against Everton, Bolton Wanderers and Chester. He started his career at Manchester City before joining Walsall and then Port Vale but spent last season at Grimsby Town in the Football Conference.
Speaking of McDonald's signing today, Manager Rob Edwards said...
“Clayton isn’t quite there with his fitness yet but I’ve been encouraged by what I’ve seen in training and the games and agreeing non-contract terms with him means he can be included in our squad. He’ll get better and better the fitter he gets and we can sit down and discuss his future with him then.”
McDonald will be available for the opening day of the 2014-15 season this Saturday 9th August when Tranmere host York City with kick off at 3pm.

Agree. From what I have seen he looks a solid, no messing defender. And have you seen the size of him? Not many strikers at this level would be too happy about coming up against him!
Hopefully he will pen a proper deal in the next 2 weeks and if Tranmere went up, be a player you could build a team around, but hopefully this represents a positive move in the short-term.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
