Tranmere on the 3rd

Then west ham away

Anyone else think where in with a half decent chance

Tranmere will have some chance of course, because we're not comparing a top 10 ranked Uefa international side, to a team like San Marino or Andorra.

Were this such a team facing the likes of Spain, France, Holland et al in a qualifying game, the answer would be emphatically no, as those big sides could have 3 players sent off in the first 10 minutes and still probably beat a bunch of amateurs.

Tranmere's odds will be probably 10% at best I feel, of actually getting a result with home advantage, but nothing is ever set in stone and maybe just maybe Micky and the team can pull it off; it depends how strong a team Swansea can field and how much they want it, versus the Tranmere XI and how much they want it.

The cup is useful extra money but a i would take an extra 3 points in the league over a cup win.
If we cannot pick up points in the league it is a sobering thought that the next cup game after Swansea could be in the qualifying rounds

we are never gona win the f.a cup so draw then back to their ground bit of extra cash then carry on with league

A lot will depend on how strong a team Swansea put out.The weaker the team the better the odds but we would need to play exceptionally well and probably have some luck as well.
As the cliche goes its 11 against 11 and on the day anything can happen but I have predicted 0-3.Head over Heart for a change.

Swansea are a good premier league side despite yesterdays result and I give our chances 2% at best. And 10 % at a draw.

I'd leave the predicting to the prediction experts if I were you Ming!

the lfc result was not a reflection on their composure and good passing, we could be absolutely annihilated unless we go in gungho and scare them with our energy levels. but this is the cup. 1982 v wolves who were top of div 2 and us bottom-ish of div 4, with alll manner of amateurs, journey-men etc and we were not ridiculous by any means although we lost 0-1. heart says maybe, head says wtf

Yes I watched the match yesterday and they are a great team and pass the ball well. I hope our players raise their game for this one. I don't think we looked out of place against Everton although it was pre season.....

There's one thing bet we do not get a goal like Liverpool got in off the red,for those who have not seen it Swansea's keeper kicked the ball out of his area as keepers do all the time no pressure on the keeper,the ball is cleared out of the area and hits the Liverpool player who knew nothing about it and it balloons up in the air and just rebounds into the net.

Job done one goal to Liverpool talk about a Xmas present.

The team we have now is not as good as the teams we had in the years between 2000-2004 when we had those cup run's to the quarter finals,three times in that spell we got to that level even being in the hat for the semi final.

So do not think we will beat Swansea this time round a draw at best as long as we are not buried.

They could rotate their players and just pick a bunch of 14, 15 and 16 year olds, but then with 5 minutes left at 0-0, they might have the audacity to bring on Bony and nick a jammy 1-0 .

I would be surprised if he goes anywhere this month and hes going to be playing in the african cup of nations

I'd heard Bony will have already gone to Africa by the time this game is played but I'm not certain?

As for getting a lucky goal off a keepers kick... don't you have to chase the goalkeepers down first before that can happen?!

I think we will get beat and get beat quite comfortably but in the FA Cup you just never know I guess.

If this Bony get's hurt then Man City can have Donnelly as a replacement not sure how much of the £30 million we would get for him.

Montero, Shelvey, Routledge, Bony & Ki are all apparently unavailable boosting our chances slightly, think they will still be too good for us but hopefully not so much that some think.

The only way City would want Donnelly was if he was offering to buy a match ticket, food, drink and program, but then they might let him have a free packet of crisps as a goodwill gesture. I mean it's not like the lost revenue on one packet would trigger off an eventual crippling their accounts anyway .

As I expected, a hammering. At least no sendings off and hopefully no injuries. Back now to the battle to avoid relegation.

Seriously? I'm proud of the team tonight. 6-2 was flattering really and I thought we put in a great performance.

Laird was excellent again and Power wasn't bad but sometimes sloppy. Not great performances for Jennings and Stockton though.

Lots of encouragement for the remainder of the League Two campaign after today! I'm satisfied tonight!

In fairness, you'll notice they only had seven shots on target, it's premier league finishing that broke us.

Laird is like a rabbit in the headlights when he gets the ball. Puts himself about but offers nothing going forward and lacks coordination. Although I agree with you in that I'm proud of the team. If we'd scrambled in that one on the line and then Max's had gone in it could've been a different game. There goal was handball.

I agree with sub. Think we were better than a 4 goal margin. Stand our performances for me were Max and Danny Holmes, though laird put a shift in. Think we missed odejayi upfront.

We could of made more of an effort for the first 30 mins i thought. We just let them play too much, no shots, no attempts to go forwards. Was a handball for there goal. Think Laird is trying to play, but he just hasn't got any quality, Jenno was awful as was Stockton. Power at least caused problems and was trying to create. They scored 5 goal far too easily, the defense just was not organized enough. Think we need at least 7 new players in the squad, x2 strikers, x2 mids, x2 center backs, and really wouldn't mind if Fonners went too. I wouldn't keep - Stockton, Holness, Laird, Rowe, Kirby, Fonners

Overreaction central has started again. They played an extremely pacey side with Champions League quality up front in Gomis, and even when they did dominate the play for the first thirty minutes they didn't create any clear chances. After they scored we got back into it and caused them problems especially from set-pieces. We were asleep at the start of the second half, and it was the second goal that was vital and killed us off. The reason these players we were against are being paid so much and are at Swansea is because they put away chances when they come. As far as the second half went we could have conceded less and played with five at the back but Adams thought we might as well have a go at them (which we did), and that left us open to the counter against a really fast team. It was an entertaining money-spinner, and we could have sat back but we didn't and I'm proud of a team that worked hard but conceded to five moments of genuine quality and one of handball. We aren't playing Swansea every week, so onwards and upwards and lets get at the teams in OUR league instead of worrying about our performances against Premier League teams.

Scoreline didn't flatter them at all, the class was there to see, they were like a hot knife through butter. Deserved all but one of their goals. And the players i named Ive been thinking the same for a long time. See we are back in the relegation zone too, honestly dont think if we keep the same squad we will stay up.

Good effort by the team but, Jenno gifted them the second goal which, seemed to knock the fight out of them for a while coming so soon after the restart.

May have been some second string players in the side Gomis, Emnis and Carroll (On Loan from Spurs but has premiership experience)but, would probably make most premiership squads.

According to TV commentary at the time linesman saw handball but, said not deliberate. A view not shared by TV and most supporters at the game.

Credit for keeping positive attitude and going forward but, hit by the counter attack on most second half goals.

The referee wasn't great IMO, why is a foul by a Rovers Player a yellow and not a Swansea Player?

This is the referee who sent off Liam R against Port Vale which was subsequently resinded.

We do need additions to the squad but cannot fault effort today.

As i said best 6-2 reverse I have ever seen. Worked hard caused them problems and don't think we deserved the score line. Good to see 10k there today let's hope some of them come back for accrington.

And OFW hardly had a shot to save. Pity he wasn't good enough to stop any of the six that went past him-to be fair that was mostly due to the quality of the finishing.

Jennings' clanger at the start of the second half was the key moment in the match. Any halftime plan was immediately out of the window.


None of the subs did their future prospects any good-Rowe was the least worst of the three but that's not saying much Baggie was awful and Kirby seemed to contribute zilch although he was on the other side of the pitch to where I was sitting.


I enjoyed the game though and was glad we eventually had a go even if it made the margin of defeat worse.

OFW still found time to berate the defence though.

Agreed.

2 goals against a teams like that is positive an it is such positives that must be transferred to the remaining games in the season.

Tranmere have never lost by more than 2 goals this season and League 2 teams will not finish quite so astutely as premier league teams when they get chances.

Pity that Gomis had to nick a 6th at the death, I thought that was a bit harsh to concede such a late one, but I feel over all positives can be taken and Tranmere have to try and hang on to Power as well.

Unfortunately, Burnley suffered three long term injuries at Newcastle and if their reported interest in Max is correct may want to add to what is already a small squad.

Bit disappointed that OFW didn't get close to some of the goals.
Didn't really attempt to close them down, after he was beaten (how?) on his near post for the second.
He had a bad spell after the Derby cup defeat a couple of years ago - hopefully no hangover after this one.

Have to say I agree with most that we had a go and we were missing quality through injuries at he back and up front. It's the same players again and again which are just not up to our level of football. Holness was ripped to shreds and looked a Sunday league player. Stockton tho scoring looked ponderous and only got space cos that's how they defend in the prem. we ran out of steam and if Max plays like that he will be picked up by someone who we can't compete with.

We need at least 5 players in the window. A centre back, a striker, midfielder, at least one wide player and another player who can either create or score or both! But they must be league 1 quality!! We may stay up without that shopping list but it would be easier with them. We must use the cup money to invest in players or the message is doom and gloom.

great cup tie, enjoyed the game, sadly the back four were shown up too often, for me if Radehalgh was fit enough to be on the bench he should have played and Danny H slotted in to his usual position.
Though Max was fantastic, disappointed in Jenner, but all in all against a top side we did well, and often showed great spirit, and fought till the end, thankfull for no injuries, and we can focus on climbing the table now, well done to the lads, and the SWA.

All these people expecting at least five recruits of "at least league one quality" how much money do you think we have? How easy is it to find these players? And who even are they? I can think of one potential signing of a good quality in Hume, but no one else realistic. Face it, these players we may or may not get in January are not necessarily the answer.

Did anyone notice Stockton go to Dyer to swap shirts at the end of the game? Dyer gave him his but didn't seem keen on getting Stockton's in return.

The game was live on the telly here in South Africa. Had all my Mates watching with me. The language was very poor and the neighbours may tackle me at some stage. I have since watched the game again and have the following observations:

Jenno had a shocker. As one of our more experienced players I expected him to protect the back line better. Quite frankly he ran around like a chicken without a head. He not only made bad mistakes but was not a leader on the field. I hope that this was just a bad day.

Thompson and Holness looked scared out of their minds at the back and are too slow for my liking. Donacien (my Villa mate obviously thought that he was fantastic) and the other lad were much better.

Danny Holmes and Max were playing out of their skin for the team. If we had 5 more players playing with this commitment we will be a good side.

Whilst I have noticed that the majority of the commentators on this site do not like Laird I thought that he got around the park and worked hard. I do not think that he looked out of place on the park.

The midfielders did not close down players and try and break up attacks which meant that the strikers just ran at the defence. Whilst I agree that Holness is poor,you cannot defend against a premier league striker whilst flat-footed or back peddling. Against a Premier League side you cannot allow anyone time on the ball. Attacks should have been closed down earlier.

The backline does not communicate very well. They were pulled wide too often and that opened gaps for Emmnes and Gomis.

You cannot blame blame Fon Williams for the goals. All six were good finishes.

The referee was poor. Whilst I acknowledge that Dyer did not deliberately use his hand, the fact is that the ball hit the arm and dropped to his foot. He gained an unfair advantage by the use of the arm.One of the goals was definitely offside. The commentators said as such after reviewing replays. Both goals proved significant to the flow of the game. I can understand Max's frustration as he seemed to have different standards in terms of the issuing of yellow cards.

We did not have the rub of the green in terms of decisions and opportunities (the shot that hit the post). If we had scored that opportunity it may have changed the game. In these types of games the underdogs need a bit of luck. We had none.

We were beaten by a side where there was obvious quality. The finishes for some of the goals were fantastic. You cannot but be impressed by the depth that Swansea has. Well done to them.

I think that a final score of 6-2 was a bit harsh on us. The movement and finishing of Swansea was just too good over the 90 minutes.

Not too despondent though. I am hoping that we bring in 4-5 of MA signings and we then march up the table. I can foresee a mid-table finish.

To be fair, Swansea deserved their win. Their pace, strength and clinical passing/finishing showed why their players are getting paid way more than ours, but 6-2 totally flattered them.

However, it was deffo handball for the first and their third was just offside. Decisions like those change games.

How Stockton's effort stayed out is still a mystery to me ... I was already out of my seat celebrating, so can only assume it hit the inside of the post and only caught glimpses of the following melee in the box.

Thought Max Power and Danny Holmes were stand-outs and Thompson played well enough. He's obviously got ability ... watched him play for my first love Celtic a couple of times. The 'word' was he either had attitude or off-the-field problems so that's why they let him go. Holness was Holness, though he was turned inside out (albeit by a top top player) for, I think it was, their last goal.

Stockton's limitations were shown up in my humble opinion.

Criticism of Bell-Baggie is a bit harsh as he was only on for fifteen minutes. However, I'll give you that it looked like he was caught flat-footed when their left back went past him as though he was standing in quicksand.

Thought Jennings had his worst game I've seen and, while I'm not Laird's biggest fan, he does have a good engine and put in a decent shift. Interesting to note that their last three goals were scored when he wasn't on the pitch. I appreciate that we'd went three at the back following that, but I believe in the adage that, in a cup game, you may as well lose 6-2 than 3-1.

Atmosphere was great. I was in the Kop for this game, though I'm normally in the Town Paddock. Hopefully, anyone with a bit of football knowledge who was there and who doesn't normally go will have enjoyed the game, agree that the scoreline flattered the opposition and, will turn up again.

The team showed enough moments of quality to convince me they'll stay up and, with a decent transfer window, will move quite a bit up the league. Wouldn't be overly saddened to see some of the players previously mentioned on here leave, including Fonners ... great shot-stopper, but shockingly bad at coming off his line or even diving down to collect balls whipped low into the box.

Get a decent striker signed and we'll be sound.

Our weak link yet again was Holness. What does Adams see in him
