Former Rovers midfielder retires from playing at the age of 35.....

 

 

 

 

 

 

Former Tranmere Rovers midfielder Andy Robinson has today confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of 35 thus bringing to an end a 13 year professional career which spanned four Clubs including three spells at Prenton Park.

Robinson began his footballing career at local non-league side Cammell Laird before being signed by Tranmere in 2002.  Without making any senior appearances for Rovers in a season-long spell at Prenton Park, Robinson signed for Swansea City in 2003 after an initial three month trial period and proved to be a huge success in South Wales, making 195 appearances and scoring 44 goals over five years.

In 2008, Robbo signed for Leeds United where he made 38 appearances and scored twice and after two separate loan spells back at Tranmere including one thanks to money raised by the Supporters Trust under the 'Les Aid' campaign, he returned to Tranmere on a permanent basis in 2011.  After being part of a Rovers squad that topped League One for almost six months before missing out on promotion and who were then relegated out of League One the following season, Robinson joined Shrewsbury at the start of the 2014/15 season but only made two appearances before being given some time out and ultimately announcing his retirement from the game today.

Probably Robinson's most memorable moment playing for Rovers was during his 'Les Aid' loan spell when his wonder goal against Millwall gave Rovers a vital home win that ultimately played it's part in Tranmere's great escape on the last day of the season at Stockport!

Total Tranmere would like to wish Robbo all the best for the future and thank him for some great memories during his time with the Club!

I still think when he scored 10 in one season a couple of years ago, he'd showed he could potentially have played for a bigger club if he wasn't someone with lingering injury and fitness concerns.

What Palios wouldn't give for a winger on close to 10 a season now.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I think we all knew this at the end of last season. A quality player for us until injury took over.

Never mind the goal from Andy as good as it was just watch the build up from the Tranmere players they fight for the ball win it get in the faces of the Millwall players,pass it between themselves
and work for the outcome and the icing on the cake Robbo's goal.

Compare that to today's team they perhaps would not have the same result most likely Millwall would have won the ball back in fact they most likely would have been given it back by missplaced pass and it could have ended up in our net.

when i think back about him it will always be that millwall goal i remember, one of the best iv`e ever seen at pp, and the game was massive as well
