One-on-One: Luton Town Fan Interview
By John Lee
April 6 2015
Continuing our new pre-match feature, John Lee talks to Luton Town fan Robin Hudson ahead of Tranmere's home game against his side.....
JL: Tranmere Rovers, what do you know about us?
RH: Friday night football, Ian Muir, Saint 'n' Greavsie love in, Ryan Taylor taking pens when he shouldn't! Most liked club on Merseyside!
JL: A great answer! Do any Tranmere players from over the years stick in your memory?
RH: Iain Hume was always decent. Muir was the Friday night Pele! Stephen O'Leary was better for you than for Luton too!
JL: You have yo-yoed around the football league over the years. How have you found League 2 compared to the others?
RL: It's just a relief to be out of non league! That was the toughest ever. League 2 has got some good talent. We've been caught short recently.
JL: Remarkably, you are on a seven game losing streak and only won one of your last ten. You seemed a shoe in for the Top 7. What happened!?
RL: Key players out lead to too many changes in personnel and formations. Cullen's failed transfer was pure poison to the squads spirit.
JL: Is this Mark Cullen? What's the story there?
RL: Wanted by Peterborough which turned his head. Then Fergie got sacked. Made a pathetic apology, clearly done as he had no new club. Made no effort since.
JL: John Still must be under some pressure. Any chance of him being sacked at this point?
RL: No. We've learnt the hard way that doesn't work. Definitely pressure after the poor run but it is far too early to sack him.
JL: Despite this, you are just three points off the play offs. Think you can make it this season?
RL: It's possible but we would need a huge turnaround. There are too many form teams around us. Plus we look a patch on what we should right now.
JL: Which players makes you tick at the moment? Anyone we should we be looking out for?
RL: Harriman at right back has been decent consistently and Smith is a standout. So many others are off form or half fit. Normally I'd have a big list!
JL: You once had Enoch Showumni. I always liked him at Tranmere. Any memories from his time at Kenilworth Road?
RL: He was amazing! Scored an incredible hatrick once, burning down the wings & cutting in to score! He even had a fans website 'Enoch's Army'!
JL: You also had George Donnelly. Was he as incompetent then as he is now?
RL: Yes! Just looked overweight and out of his depth. Kind of surprised to hear he's still making a living as a player... Hard luck!
JL: In general, do you perform well away from home and how have you coped with those in the relegation fight?
RL: Not well really and especially of late. Those in a fight normally come out scrapping - I expect you will be the same. Perfect time to play us.
JL: I hope you are right! On that not, prediction for Monday?
RL: 1-1. Which will be a point on the road to recovery. And I hope you guys avoid the non league. It's a dark and lonely place...
JL: Finally, a prediction for where both clubs will finish and, although you have kind of answered it already, would you like to see Tranmere survive?
RL: Of course - You have the history to justify staying in the League. I'd love to see York go down! Horrible little club. For us, play offs, maybe.
