One-on-One: Oxford United Fan Interview

Continuing our pre-match feature, John Lee talks to Oxford United fan Ash Hall ahead of Tranmere's home against the U's on Saturday afternoon.....  

JL:  What do you know about your next opponents Tranmere Rovers?

AH:  Looked poor when we played them first time.  With the appointment of Adams I thought they'd improve but it doesn't seem to have worked out.

JL:  Have you rated any of our players, past or present day?

AH:  Ryan Lowe used to bang them in for fun for you!  Nowadays Max Power looks a talent for the future.

JL:  Safe from relegation, no chance of the play offs.  Is that a successful season for Oxford United?

AH:  It's successful in a way of that we looked doomed at Christmas time, overall it's been poor under Appleton whose job is on the line.

JL:  Last season, you finished 8th.  Why the drop this year?

AH:  The turnover in the amount of players and the late change of manager and ownership has cost us.  Next season is massive for our future.

JL:  John Aldridge had a spell at Oxford United.  Is he remembered fondly?

AH:  He's one of the best players ever to play for us.  One of our clubs biggest and 'well known' legends.

JL:  If we don't beat you, we are finished.  How will you be approaching the game?

AH:  I think we'll approach it with a lot of freedom, maybe a few fringe players will play trying to earn a contract for next year.  A nothing game.

JL:  Ah, a 'nothing game'. I remember them well.  I miss them!  You lost at home to Hartlepool recently, do you struggle against the poor sides?

AH:  Yes. Our record against the top sides is far better than our one against poorer sides.  Very strange.

JL:  Lets hope that continues!  Danny Hylton has been on form this season.  How is he playing at the moment and will you keep him this summer?

AH:  At the moment he's playing okay but not as well as he was earlier in the season.  Yes, I think he'll stay for another season to prove himself.

JL:  Who is your star man at the moment?  Anyone we should be keeping an eye on?

AH:  Kemar Roofe.  He's playing brilliantly at the moment and looks a very skilful player.  He's on loan from West Brom.

JL:  You once beat us at Prenton Park on the last day of the season to stay in the old Division One.  Does any part of you want to repay us this weekend?

AH:  I think Tranmere will have a winnable game on their hands.  It's up to them to decide if they wanna win it!

JL:  Prediction for the game?

AH:  1-0 Tranmere. A goal from a set piece.

JL:  Can Tranmere survive the drop?

AH:  I can't see you picking up points in your last 2 so I don't think you'll have enough to stay up.  Sad for such a big club.  But look at Bristol Rovers.  There isn't any reason why Tranmere couldn't come straight back up.
