Gary Brabin has today been named as the new Tranmere Boss........
As expected and already widely rumoured prior to today's official announcement, Tranmere have today announced that Gary Brabin is the new manager of the Club with immediate effect.
The 44-year-old former midfielder player has much experience in and around the non-league level of football having begun his managerial career with Southport in 2008 during which time he achieved immediate success by guiding them into the play-offs, before joining Cambridge United.
At Cambridge he got the club to the play-off finals in his first season in charge before being voted the Conference Manager of the Year in 2009 and the following season he joined Luton Town initially as Chief Scout, then as Assistant Manager but in 2011 was appointed Manager following the departure of Richard Money. In his first year in charge at Luton, they achieved the play-off final, but were defeated on penalties. He left Luton the following season, with the Hatters just outside the play-off places with seven games to go.
In 2014 he re-joined Southport, but was tempted away by Everton FC in January 2015 to take up a coaching role in the Academy and the Club have stated that they are grateful to Everton for allowing Gary to move across the river to further his career.
Speaking of the appointment to the Tranmere Rovers Official Website, Chairman Mark Paliossaid...
“Gary was my main target for this role for a number of reasons, although I knew it would be very difficult to tempt him out of an Everton role he was clearly enjoying. Firstly, he is a manager with a strong win rate (over 48%) and a fantastic track record of getting his clubs into the Conference play offs. He achieved this feat in all 3 of his full seasons as manager in the Conference, and left Luton when they were still in a very strong position. Importantly, the job requires a strong character and someone who knows what the weight of expectation of managing a larger club in the Conference feels like. Gary has done this at both Cambridge and Luton."
“But he is not someone who relies on playing ugly football to win matches; he is a young progressive manager who has taken the time to study other successful managers both in this country and abroad, and who is very keen to use the best that sports science can offer to ensure that players are at peak fitness and continue to develop throughout their careers."
Gary Brabin has today been confirmed as the new Rovers Manager
“Finally, he is a local man. Although that wasn’t a pre-requisite for the job, I do think it means he has both a natural affinity for and understanding of the area and more importantly what Tranmere Rovers means. He also has an excellent knowledge of local born players at all levels and, through his role at Everton, the ability and respect to rebuild links with Everton which have proved so valuable in the past.”
“It was important not to be rushed into an appointment, as it is a critical decision to get right. But appointing Gary now means he will have time to shape a squad of his own over the summer, and have a full pre-season to work with them.
“On Saturday we bowed out of the League for now. But the hard work of rebuilding began well before that. I am delighted that Gary has agreed to come on board and take on that role.”
Gary Brabin himself added..
“I have gone on record in the past as saying that the role I was doing at Everton was my dream job, and I did not think that anything would tempt me into leaving there. I have had approaches from other Clubs and declined them, but the Tranmere job is special. The chance to lead one of the three famous old Merseyside Clubs back to where it belongs in the League is a fantastic challenge that is hard to resist.
The decision was also partly down to the Chairman: it is unusual to be able to work with a Chairman who is a football man through and through and Mark and I have a shared vision of what was needed to get the foundations right for the future."
“I know that the Club and its fans are hurting right now because of relegation, but I am confident that we can restore the Club to its former glory and play some football that will put a smile back on the fans’ faces.”

It's just words, but it's the right words. We were a tempting enough proposition to get Brabin away from Everton, now let's hope he and we are a tempting enough proposition to get the right players here.
Regardless of opinions about the individual, the positive is that the appointment has been made early and Brabin may well have had a chance to look at the squad which should aid quick action to rebuild
good stuff, hes got his last 3 clubs in the playoffs, so lets hope we can be the 4th (at least the playoffs). Says he into all that sports science fitness stuff, so lets rid that timber off those lazy sods.Onwards and upwards for the SWA
Very true.Sure Mark Palios has acted swiftly to continue,and make sure we have every chance next season,and in a manager that fits what we need to do this.To prize him away from his job at Everton,means Mark Palios has pulled all the stops out to get the right man who has experience,of the conference,and desire to bring Tranmere Rovers to its rightful place,league football
Perfect appointment. Knows exactly what the conference is all about how to do well on a good budget. Good footballing knowledge and with leaving Everton he knows what younger players might be tempted with 12 months of promotion chasing football!! Season Ticket renewed this week now!! SWA
Good appointnment i hope but then i said that about Adams. His speech on the web seems very upbeat. I just want to see us be competitive again i what ever league we are in. It used ti be a surprise when we lost at home, last 10 years its a surprise when we win.
He now has the chance to speak to the existing players in person and can make the decision of culling the ones he doesn't deem fit for the club (most of them I agree!)
There will be the odd one or two fans who will hate the fact we did not get the unrealistic targets of Nigel Adkins (example), and will be on his back from minute one, but I for one will support him on his decisions. Even if it means making some tough ones like letting players like Koumas and Holmes go

Good job they didn't use all this season's on loan paperwork otherwise it would have been an inferno.
I don't know too much about the guy but the speed in which Palios has acted has been positive. We just need to get players in soon so they can gel and the gaffer can identify any weak spots. Let's up he hit the ground running.

Brabin is a serial also ran. He's never won anything.
You'll regret not getting Paul Cox in as your Manager, especially if he turns up in the Cheltenham hot seat, or Forest Green
Come Christmas, and you are not in or around the top 3, you'll realise that you've wasted the super important parachute payment money, and it's back to the £30k per season that the Conference dish out, and get used to teams turning up with 20-30 supporters.
If you are back within 3-5 years, you will have done exceptionally well.
Somehow, I can't see it happening with Brabin in charge, but good luck anyway.
Ok Paul you must have really wanted the job coming on here as staggo. Listen mate it's nice you having a point of view. But really coming on another site with negative comments about our new appointed Manager. Can you tell me this Fridays numbers through your crystal ball.

kind of knew we would go for a local guy. only time will tell if the appointment is worthwhile. really important for everyone to get behind him and hopefully palios can deliver with the cash, funds etc to enable him to build/rebuild a squad that can compete , get results and improve attendances. a lot to ask, I say, but it is achievable. not expecting instant success but it seems a new outlook and fresh approach for the club.
hong kong rover first job for brabin to do is clear out the shite. seems like is first week will be spent neck high in it, lol.
job and a half that, i`d get rid of the lot and start again, the losing mentality that is inherent at the football club needs removing instantly and that will only be achieved by removing all the players, absolute gobs****s the lot of them, maybe a bit harsh on matt hill but hey ho
I'm just glad a timely appointment has been made to allow the planning for next season to begin before the 2014/2015 football calendar has fully finished. Would never have been my first choice, but then football has always been a polarising sport. Ultimately, Mr & Mrs Palios have identified him as the man they want to implement their progressive vision and the more and more I think about it, I am genuinely excited for the pre-season shenanigans of contracts, transfers and squad shaping. More importantly I am excited for a totally different campaign than we have become accustomed to over the last few years; and I'm going to be able to attend more games too!
Just hope we can attract the right players to match those credentials?
Hopefully we won't become a Southport Old Boys Club.
We need a couple of prolific goal scorers if we want to make any kind of impact.
Stats show you need 90+ goals and around 92 points to get automatic promotion from this league, have we ever managed either of these at any level we've played at?
Just a reminder of how big the task ahead is going to be.
Hopefully the new manager has a decent portfolio of players that fill the bill and can go out and get them before they ate snapped up by our competitors?
Exciting pre season awaits, just hope he can deliver.

I think we managed 26 goals at home in L2 should get about 65 plus away if required no problem. as for points at home wont go their. I agree with Pez very difficult with the present players.
his managerial stats say that in the 140 competitive matches that he has managed in , he only lost 31 of them. I don't always read into the stats too much, but would have to say that is not too bad at all.
A good appointment as Gary Brabin has the credentials to turn things around. It will be interesting to see the players that are recruited in the close season and who (if any) retained from the current squad. I also hope that the fans will give our new manager a chance at the beginning of next season if we don't get off to a flyer, as it will take a while for the new squad to bed in. All the best Gary.

Probably best realistic appointment we could make in circumstances. Not only does he have links at Everton but he is also good mates with Warren Joyce U21 manager at Man Utd.

Yes you're right he lost in a playoff final on penalties and another final 2-0. I mean how close to winning something did he have to get? He couldn't get any closer.
Also he left one job for Everton so he might have won something there.
