Former Forest Green striker becomes Brabin's first new signing......

Tranmere have today announced the signing of former Forest Green striker James Norwood from 1st July.  Norwood joins up as the Gary Brabin revolution gets underway with the new Managers' first signing.

Norwood has scored 49 goals in 165 games for Forest Green and boasts Brighton HA and Exeter City amongst his former Clubs as well as scoring four times in seven appearances for the England C team.

Speaking of his first new signing as Tranmere Manager, Gary Brabin told the Tranmere Rovers Official Website.....

“I’m delighted to make James my first signing.  He was someone I knew I wanted to bring to the Club the day I became Manager.  He’s got a good scoring record in the Conference and I know he can get better.  But he’s got more than goals to his game, he’s someone who will work his socks off up front and make life difficult for the opposition."

“He had interest from League One and League Two clubs but he wanted to be a part of our plans here and I’m really pleased to be able to add him to my squad.”

Total Tranmere would like to welcome James to Tranmere Rovers and we look forward to seeing him in action when the new season gets underway.

A Striker by all accounts, although hardly prolific.

48 in 163, hardly great at any level tbh.

He's obviously rated by Brabin and according to Twitter, he turned down offers from League 1 & 2 clubs to come to P.P?

He's either better than his stats suggest, or were grossly over paying him and he's here for the money?

Hopefully he's a decent player, we could do with some talent coming through the door.

His record the last 3 season at FG is nearly 1 in 2 I think. His first year there he scored only 4 in 33, so throws his stats out a fair bit

Seems to be rated by Brabin anyway

His stats are better than anyone else we have had at PP for a while.

I didn't know there was an England C team. Some of our released players might qualify for the Z team..

Looks a decent start in signings and from the photo I think Brabin needs an XL shirt.....

"He’s someone who will work his socks off up front and make life difficult for the opposition."

That comment alone makes me happy.

2014/15 Apps(as sub) Goals MoM Cards
League 26 (13) 11 4 Red Card 1 yellow Card 7
Cup 2 (2) 2 0 Red Card 0 yellow Card 0

its not to bad also as he had competition from , lee hughes and jon parkin who were keeping him out of the side and other forwards

You can do anything with stats, if you take out his first year at Forest Green his ratio improves to 1 goal every 3 games.

Apart from Ryan Lowe, no one has been remotely close to that in the last 3 or 4 seasons.

IMO step in the positive signing.

It's only the future that counts not his past stats.

Just doing a bit of research:

[forum.fgrfc.net]

Seems to be a good signing, normally fans are glad to see the back of old players.

They also mention 'cocky' and 'ego'. That's exactly what we need. We have been a club full of 'losers' for the last 2.5 seasons.

The bit about him playing the majority of his games on the wing is interesting, it suggests his stats could have been even better

It is an interesting signing in that there may be potential but do we know enough yet to say it is a good signing? Last summer some of this seasons dreadfuls were hailed as good signings. The profile ticks some boxes and that is positive. Forest Green had some experienced strikers who seemed to be picked ahead of him such as Parkin, Hughes and Stuart Fleetwood. All are players in decline so it is surprising that he was seen as behind them in selection.

I take with a pinch of salt any claim about who was after a player. Agents spin anything and if there were a number of offers you would expect the player to take a little time to consider options.

None of this is intended to be negative it may turn out to be a great aquisition but it always seems premature to hail someone about whom nothing was none the day before as a good signing. It is however an interesting signing

More inspiring then last summers first signing anyway! Gill and Richards hardly got us talking! Seems positive getting a player in by May is so unlike Tranmere too!

He's a solid 1 in 4 striker, a good start in terms of rebuilding squad. Need another striker with similar goals to game ratio. Well done Brabs and Palios.

Thanked the forest green fans on Twitter for supporting him even when he was playing badly. He's gonna be in for a shock with us.

Why did Forrest Green release him?

Same situation as OFW he had already told them he was not going to sign for next season as he wanted to get into league football (ahem) so they pushed before he could jump.

A decent signing from what I can make out, so that's a plus point. Hopefully more such signings of potential quality will come.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

The first piece of the jigsaw, let's hope all the other pieces fit or we don't end up with some missing come August!

You definitely need a jigsaw that fits, because it doesn't matter how many times you try to force a piece with half a leg on it, into a piece with half a cloud on it, you'll be wasting your time.

Please o please Danny and Jason sign up with Tranmere for the next season. Not bothered with Jennings he didn't try hard enough when with us a second time.
Danny and Jason are true Tranmere boys through and through. Jason had injuries but wasn't played enough by any of the Managers but when he did he showed his skill and experience.Danny showed how good he was last season - the most improved player in the team. He fought for the team.

Fully agree with you dafydd, Jennings was disappointing towards the end when the going got tough...also Laird..although he "tries hard" as some on here say...anyone who gets paid should try hard..he is not a footballer. He passes to the opposition..his tackles are weak..his brain scrambles in front of goal..just not good enough, better players on show in wirral sunday leagues.
