Midfielder Jay Harris Joins Rovers

It's two signings in just over 24 hours for Rovers as former Wrexham midfielder Jay Harris signs up.....

Tranmere Manager Gary Brabin has today made his second signing in just over 24 hours with the announcement that former Wrexham midfielder Jay Harris will join the Club from 1st July subject to a medical.

The 28 year old, who today signed a one-year deal at Prenton Park, began his career as a trainee at Everton and after two spells of two years each at both Accrington Stanley and Chester, he joined Wrexham in the summer of 2010 and has since made 187 starting appearances and 10 as substitute for the North Wales club scoring 18 goals in that time.

Harris also helped Wrexham to FA Trophy success against Grimsby Town at Wembley Stadium 2013 as well as missing out in the Conference play off semi-final and in the final the following season.

Speaking to the Tranmere Rovers Official Website about the signing of Harris, Rovers Manager Gary Brabin said.....

“I’m really pleased to be able to bring Jay to the club. He is a player I have tried to sign in the past, so I know a lot about him.  He is a local lad who has arguably been one of the best midfielders in the Conference in recent years."

“He has shown great hunger and desire to come to Tranmere, kick on in his career and be a part of what we’re doing at the Club so I’m delighted he’s decided to join us.”

It seems the previous comments are lost on this. For some reason I published the story and merged the threads together but the merge didn't go well.

I will ask tomorrow if it can be recovered - totally my fault I can only apologise.

Should make the Wrexham match a bit more spicy. If it needed it! Gary Mills, remember him? He was confident Jay was going to sign for Wrexham, but he decided to come to a bigger club.

Refreshing to see us taking players off other clubs, rather than having it done to us.

Yep very refreshing to see that players are starting to notice that something big is happening at Tranmere and want to be a part of it

So much for the doom and gloom brigade who were predicting us being unable to attract any players. I love what we're doing at the moment. Striker, 2 midfielders and defender. Sounds like the core of a team being built to me.

Played nearly 40 games per season for the last 5 years, so he's consistent and injury free at least. Wrexham fans seem gutted he's gone, but again we appear to have offered a better deal.

So that's 2 players in a week who we have offered better contracts too. Blimey!!

What sort of player is he?

Great signing in my opinion! Always stood out when I've watched Wrexham play!

First three signings are great signs of the clubs intention next season. Can't wait. Be even happier once we have a good goalie signed.

Agreed, another good signing. Glad to see the an actual squad being built rather than thrown together. All players so far have good experience and lots of promise.

Whats he like as a player Deadly? Lot of Wrexham fans seem to be disappointed he's left.

He's annoyed them by saying he'd stay and then signing for us. He's already a legend in my eyes.

Reading on Harris' Wikipedia entry:
"On 7 April 2009, Harris was one of five players charged with breaching Football Association rules on betting relating to the Accrington game against Bury match of the final day of 2007–08.[5] He was later banned for twelve months and fined £5,500.[6]"

Obviously following in a fine Rovers tradition! lol

Three signed on in a week in May,we will have to hold out till the season starts to see how good they turn out to be,but it far better to get them and any other's on board sooner than later.

My Wrexham mate in work said he is gutted. He was their Best player. He said he is a box to box midfielder full of energy and has got a great shot..........

Every ball is a white ball............TRFC

Harris is a good player when in the mood and when not suspended.

Whenever I've been to watch Wrexham (which admittedly isn't as much as I used to) he has stood out as a decent player.

A few Wrexham lads I know have said he's a decent player but last few seasons with them was a bit off the boil and the time had come for a fresh start for both parties.

As Chester Blue says he is prone to red cards but I also recall a stunner for Wrexham which is probably on You Tube somewhere!

From what our new signings are saying, were considered to be a massive club, quite reassuring when were trying to lure decent talent to the club.

Good job being done by Mark and Nicola by selling the club to potential players enough for them to want to come and play here.

Hopefully there will be a few more prepared to buy into what the club hopes to achieve and e can finally have something to be proud of next season.

All the indications are that things are going in the right direction.

Looking forward to the new campaign.
