Latest Edition of Rovers Fanzine Still on Sale

The latest edition of the Tranmere Rovers fanzine, "Give Us An R" is still available to purchase at all of Rovers' upcoming home and away matches.......    

With the new football season now over a week old, there is of course a brand new edition of the popular Tranmere Rovers Fanzine “Give Us An R” on sale at all Rovers matches both home and away.

The latest issue of the Mag (Issue 99 - Aug/Sep 2015) went on sale for the first time at the start of the season last week against Woking and will be available for fans to purchase at all remaining Rovers home and away games in the coming weeks, including the two home games this week against Halifax Town and Boreham Wood.

Just one step away from its 100^th edition, this issue features new Rovers Manager Gary Brabin as its full colour front cover photo, pictured during the pre-season win against Heswall.  The inside of the front cover features images from the day that no Rovers fan really cares to remember - the 3-2 defeat away at Plymouth Argyle at the end of April which sealed Tranmere's relegation from the Football League.

Away games that are featured in the regular ‘Away Days’ articles in this issue are reviews of the trips at the end of last season's dreadful campaign to Southend United, Mansfield Town and Plymouth Argyle, which of course all ended in defeat.

As usual there are also all of the regularly featured contributions such as 'The Hairdryer Treatment' (Ryan Ferguson), 'The Jones Journal' (Trevor Jones), Total Tranmere's very own Deadly Submarine, Matthew Jones and Liam Scarth’s European Football piece.

Ryan’s piece in this edition looks back at the playing career and retirement at the end of last season of Jason Koumas and his notable contributions during his time at Prenton Park over two spells.  Liam meanwhile discusses the role of Dynamo Kiev and its players during the Nazi occupation of the Ukraine during the second world war. 

Trevor Jones gives his usual in-depth look at recent Rovers matches that have taken place since the last edition of GUAR went on sale, this time reviewing the end of last season from the home game against AFC Wimbledon to the final day of the season against Bury and also about Ian Goodison's Testimonial game.

Matthew Jones looks at the seemingly earlier start to the football season every year and looks at how Rovers have fared in matches that have signalled earlier starts to the season in previous years.  He also looks back at the Tranmere career of Danny Holmes folllowing his move away from the Club in the summer.

'Give Us An R' is on sale at all Rovers Matches both Home and Away

Now a regular contributor to the Mag, Tom Raybould looks back at what went wrong at the end of last season and looks ahead to this new campaign whilst former Rovers Youth Team player James Ashcroft also assesses what has happened to Tranmere and looks at the importance of our excellent youth system in the coming years ahead.

Alongside the usual ‘Anorak Quiz’ (Guess the Grounds) and ‘That 80’s Quiz’ are a number of small and often witty pieces about things related to both Tranmere and football in general including a 'National League Emergency Kit'.  There is also a look at all of Rovers' away following numbers last season as well as the away followings that each team brought to Prenton Park.  The average and highest attendances for all of last years Conference teams are also provided in this edition. 

If you've never read GUAR before, or you used to read it but have since lapsed, why not give it a try.  The fanzine is on sale at Tranmere games both home and away with matchday sellers at Prenton Park usually situated on the corner of the Kop and Johnny King Stand and at the opposite corner of the Stadium next to the Johnny King Statue.  At away games the Mag is usually on sale at the away turnstiles.

Priced at £2.50, the fanzine is an entertaining read featuring mixed views and opinions on both Rovers related issues and football in general so why not give it a go!
