Match Discussion: Grimsby Town (A)

By Deadly Submarine
September 17 2015

A place for fans of both Rovers and Grimsby Town to discuss Friday evening's upcoming National League match at Blundell Park in what is Tranmere's second away game in the space of four days ......

Following last Tuesday night's 2-2 derby draw away at Southport, our match discussion thread returns once again as Rovers prepare to play in their second away game in quick succession as they travel to Grimsby Town on Friday evening for a game set to be televised live to the nation on BT Sport.  Tranmere are of course going into the game unbeaten in four games thanks to three draws and a win and will be looking to at least continue the unbeaten habit against a seemingly free-scoring Grimsby side.

Whether you are unable to make the game for any reason, or even if you are attending, this is the place to discuss all the pre-match build up including team line-up and score predictions, events during the match itself  as well as all the post match fall-out and analysis.   The thread is open to fans of both sides to discuss the events surrounding the game so if you haven't got a Message Forum accounts yet then why not sign up now?

Stadium - Grimsby Town

Rovers are Live in front of the Nation again this Friday away at Grimsby

During the game, for those who can't make to a television, Total Tranmere will also be providing Live score updates from Blundell Park on our Facebook and Twitter accounts so if you don't already do so, why not follow us why not do it right now so you don't forget later!  Just click on the two links above to go to our Social Media accounts.

I think we have to win tomorrow if we are to be in with a shout of the playoffs this year

3.0 Tranmere based on the fact that Grimsby are good. Good against good and bad against bad.

2-2 draw after either side leading 2-0 at half time, one player from either side being sent off and the other team failing to make the most of their advantage. This reminds me of Groundhog Day.

Both teams have under performed so far and this suggests a draw.
On the other hand we have been adept at gifting points to some very poor sides so logic suggests that we will come out of this empty handed. I am not sure that close analysis in general supports the claim that we drop points to poor sides and do well against better teams. My theory is we notice dropping points to weak sides and are disappointed, where as we accept not winning against good teams.

Our problem so far is that we are not winning enough and the way substitutes are used may be a factor

poor 1st half from both sides. strange goal to concede and stunning reflex save from their keeper to deny Jackson. they are more physical than us and we are getting out muscled at times. norwood being bossed by their central defence. we need creativity in the middle of the park.

Point away at one of teams fancied to be up there end of season, three forced substitutions so i suppose not a bad point at all. Bit disappointed we sat to deep at didn't show any desire to attack in the last twenty minutes even though the opportunity was there on more than one occasion but again a good point

A point away at the pre season promotion favourites is a good point no matter how well or badly we play. The negativity that I have read during and since this match[ particularly elsewhere] has plombed new depths. I am sure that a fair number of posters[again particularly elsewhere] actively hope that we lose.

Well we haven't lost in a while so it cant be all that bad. Grimbsy are a decent side, and an inspired substitution got us a good point. Didn't particularly like the first half display though.

A good point for sure. We stayed solid despite the changes. Wingers need to be more involved i think, play wider like Grimsby did, that's why they are leading goals scorers

It's so frustrating to watch and it appears GB doesn't see it. The players are just hoofing it but it appears out of panick, they look as though there afraid to put there foot on it in case they loose possesion and get yelled at, either by fans or managment who knows. The forwards are detached and out the game, we are playing with 9 men. Blisit scored a great goal but was in effective after that, a yard behind the Grimbsy defenders as was Norwood who tried too many failed flicks and shots from idiot positions with no attempt to hold the ball, he needs to get a pair of running shoes and run 3 or 4 miles a day to shed that wok he's smuggling. We can't play Jennings and Harris in the same team, it's like a poo version of Gerrard/Lampard, they do the same thing. It has to be Maynard (can't understand why he's on the bench) alongside either one. We need a couple of wingers as our full backs appear to be being asked to push on and just aren't good enough footballers to do it effectively, no imagination, skill, pace or quality to effect the game or provide chances in an attacking way. We've drawn five but I'd rather we had given those games more of a go and lost 3 won 2, 6 points instead of 5. On the plus side with all of those defects we didn't look to much worse if any than Grimbsy who were pre season favourites to be champions, they just had a bit more football brains going forward I felt than us.

He did, not sure what that says about the rest and really should mean if we get it together we can go on a run. I'd love to hear Brabin tell us what's wrong, he just keeps saying "we know what's wrong", well what is it please Gary, lack of players, cohesion, he's so frustrating such a bore.

To be fair, we controlled the scrappy first half, without really creating anything (other than jacksons sitter!!). Then we flew out of the blocks again in the second half, first to the ball, creative passing. It was nice to watch.

Then, after we scored it became a good match with Grimsby pushing on as well. But, with 20 mins left, we couldn't get into the match. Our tactics were tackle/block hoof. What changed?

Norwood ran his @#$%& into the ground, but their centre backs had him in there pockets all night. Jacksons first touch was poor. Hill defended well tonight, probably my MOM. Mekki should have gone off in the first half, he was clearly injured. Dawson has a touch of class.

Overall a good peformance against a team that will be there or there abouts this season.

I think most of the Tranmere team need to go on a run and get some much needed fitness back in the squad. They are not a bad team just poorly managed and after the games tomorrow they will be mid table folks.

HIGGO: "We can't play Jennings and Harris in the same team, it's like a poo version of Gerrard/Lampard, they do the same thing. It has to be Maynard (can't understand why he's on the bench) alongside either one. "

I agree to this, it looked earlier in the season that those two playing in front of the back four might have made it difficult to score against us but these days it's not justifying itself. It's risky but could be the tweak thats needed

not a bad point at the end of the day. dug deep and battled well considering the injuries and substitutions. against a side that scores freely at home and also a side that are unlucky not to be in the league ( thought they were better than bristol rovers back in mays play off final.) feeling confident for aldershot game.

I think GB has a tat of that phrase on his right forearm, I have he's trying to get the Kop to sing it too instead of Super White Army! Tackle Block Hooooof Tackle Block Hooooof.

True but if you look who Grimsby have played so far this season, they have played anyone else in the current Top 6!

Well I was at the game with two friends (neutrals) and they thoroughly enjoyed the action so maybe we as fans as one of the teams playing just don't see it the same way (often because many of our fans and other teams fans too just like to see the negatives all the time)

Unfortunately im starting to think the majority of our fans are complete victor meldews. I sit in front of people who soon as sit down moan. One even said after beating chester why did i pay 17quid . You paid to watch and suppport tranmere and they won what more do people want?

Id rather play hoof ball and draw or win than play pretty football on the ground and lose. Im starting to wish i hadnt got a season ticket not because of the football but due to.the total lack of support that the "FANS" give.

We were a club in terminal decline and im sure there are still problems at the club. Thankfully none of these "FANS" were about in johnny kings first season as they would have been calling for his head.

If you are a fan support the club not moan and @#$%& and boo. This season has been hell of alot better than the last two so enjoy it .

A good comeback in the end and maybe it will be the start of a few more goals by Blissett as he finished well.

5 points from 3 games could be a lot worse and something to build on.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

not sure if we will get any further goals from blissett. pretty sure we only have him on a one month loan and that one month must be up now, unless weve extended his loan?
