Lincoln at Home for Rovers in FA Cup

Tranmere’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round match will be at home to Lincoln City following today’s draw…
This morning’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round draw has handed Rovers a home tie against fellow National League side Lincoln City as both sides bid to reach the first round proper of the competition – something which poses a new challenge for Tranmere Rovers.
The Imps currently reside in eighth place in the Vanarama National League, just three places and only one point behind Rovers but with a game in hand having not played in midweek last week.
This will mean a tough test for Gary Brabin and his players if Rovers are to make it to the first round proper of the competition this season.
Lincoln City will visit Prenton Park in the FA Cup in two weeks time
The last time to the two sides met competitively was in a Cup game exactly ten years ago this week as Rovers triumphed 2-1 at Prenton Park in the Football League Trophy. The last time the two sides met in League action was in the 1988/89 season as Tranmere won 1-0 at Prenton Park in October before Lincoln got their revenge with a 2-1 win at Sincil Bank in the following March.
The two sides are of course set to meet in the League, at Sincil Bank, in a month’s time so should the game go to a replay, we may be seeing a lot of the Imps in the coming weeks.

Obviously way way down on our list of priorities this season but any extra revenue will I'm sure be welcomed by 'those upstairs'

Terrible draw. Yes it's at home but of all the teams we could have played we get a team just below us in the League and going well.

not a particularly inspiring draw but at least we are at home. I can remember that league game at the end of the '80s when we played them at prenton,[ they had just got back into the league after dropping out in '87] and we had 2 players sent off and we still won the game.i cant remember who were the 2 red carded players that day, if anyone can recall then I would be interested to know.

if we overcome Lincoln and find ourselves up against Ronnie moores hartlepool in the first round proper then that could be interesting.

On the same day we drew them in the Cup.my train tickets for the league match at Sincil Bank arrived through the post.

Think it was McCarrick and Hughes who got carded that night. The referee was awfull as Lincoln kicked ten tonnes of £&?@ out of the Rovers players and he chose not to do anything about it. I had to restrain my usually placid grandfather from climbing on to the pitch, murder was in the air as "your going to get your £&@?!£ heads kicked in" rang out from all four sides of the ground, that was until Ian Muir popped up with the winner.

thks your lordship, I had an inkling that one of the players was yozzer hughes. I remember muiry getting the goal. lincoln were a dirty side. at that time I was doing some work in London and a pal of mine down there was a barnet fan. remember him telling me that when lincoln had that one year in the conference they gained no friends at all. they literally kicked their way back into the football league with a 'win at all costs' attitude. I actually saw barnet play a couple of times during that season when Lincoln pipped them to the conference title. I am pretty sure that runcorn came close that season.
