Any idea on what the formation is today? seems to have plenty in midfield.

Match report seems to indicate they are playing well, shots against to goals conceeded doesnt make great reading though. Few teams above winning need the result

We failed to carry the total dominance of the first half into the second although we still had the better of the game and missed out on three points by an inch from Tomlinson's superb effort!

There were positives from the game on top of the fact we didn't lose... We defended much much better and were undone by a wonder goal that any team would do well to prevent.

Something to build on I guess but would be concerned that Norwood seems the one and only spark upfront with no-one else looking capable of stepping up including Mangan and Taylor-Fletcher.

An improvement for sure based on the performance, but a little perplexing that Kirby was not brought on considering he can score, and had been in form whilst out on loan?

Shows how poor we are at scoring,Halifax have scored 22 goals in the last nine games we have scored 6. Not good enough this is why we can't win game's this is why we are poor and failing and Brabin fails to change anything.

I think even the most optimistic amongst us must realise that promotion, even out right ( ha ha) or through the play offs is now a far and distent pipe dream. Belmont's statistic above is the main reason why, we can not score goals. Just look at how many other teams knock in on a regular basis. Our strikers are not good enough and what all the pre season hype about them was all about beggars belief. Mid table is the best we can hope for but I fear worse.

Easily the better side in the first half but didnt take our chances. Not sure why Mekki was subbed, thought he was playing ok. Jenno played much better aswell. MOM for me was Norwood.

Not a convincing performance but an improved one.

It was daylight robbery that Halifax got a point.Great shot their goal but apart from that,nothing....... The worst team I've seen us play this season yet we failed to win. Baffling.

Norwood was fantastic up front ON HIS OWN[that was the problem].No support. We totally dominated the first half and should have been out of sight. Eventually we score and come close to a second-then bam totally out of the blue-its 1-1.

Second half we were nothing like as good as first half but still much the better team. Our fans shouted for Mangan[who eventually came on and did nothing] and booed Tomlinson as he came on.The latter had his best ten minutes by a mile in a Rovers shirt towards the end but......................it's one point. How on earth was it not three? Answers on a postcard please...........

The team got clapped off at the end by the way.

Who played well and who didn't? Norwood by miles the MOM for us.Goalkeeper and defence did OK not much to do.Midfield were better than recently although Maynard tried too hard on his return to his former club.

GTF poor-if that's the best he can do-then bye bye.Mekki also poor. Why Mangan did not go up front with Norwood,I don't know.Game was crying out for it.

I disagree, to an extent. Fixing any one of the main problems would give us a shot at getting into the playoffs. The lack of scoring wouldn't be a massive problem if we controlled the games, even if we did give away the odd bad goal; similarly, it wouldn't be such a huge problem if we didn't control the game but didn't gift away bad goals. And if we were free scoring it wouldn't matter so much if we didn't control the game or gave away some bad goals. Fix any one and we would have a decent shout at the playoffs imo, fix two of them and I think we would get in.

Individually I think our strikers are good, but they aren't a good combination.

Back to the game, what formation did we play, it seemed like the team was a bit different. Did we set up differently?

I wasn't their so can't really comment but the stats seem to show a better performance, as does the report, however every week people seem to say the same things: If it wasn't for a worldy, this was a slightly better performance, we can't score goals. Very disappointing for me all these things the money has been their, we probably had pick of the players yet I look at Cheltenham and they are flying and we just show no improvement. Gary Johnson is the difference for me, very frustrating. I don't care who the manager is but whoever, can we sign some goal scorers please?

We went back to 4-2-3-1, and no luck! Baffling why we didn't win!
Much improved! Norwood mom! We hit woodwork twice and a whisker away from a deserved winner from Tomlinson.
One of the lads was certain the ball crossed the line in first half!
Ihiwiki had a decent game and thank the gods Harris is back.
We actually made three subs!
The Shay, a proper football ground!

All these comments are rediculous, anyone realise we were playing 3rd from bottom in the league ? Favourites for relegation, 4 points off bottom ??? For the first time in my life im embarrased to support this club !!! January is coming up and im even more worried about brabin being given the go ahead to recruit more @#$%& players !!! Looks like palios will be sticking with this joke of a manager and we will be the laughing stock of the league again.. Anyone who thinks this is a good point against arguably the worst team in the league is crazy, we need change ASAP !!!!

Halifax are also the in form team in the League at the moment over the past four or five games and have conceded just four goals I believe.

They are certainly not the same as the side that struggled early on in the season.

Be interesting to see if the answer to your last question is Yes Hoots!

Not good enough

Brabin can say all he wants but when we can create 15-16 chances and score 1 we are fecked.
Welcome to mid table national league.

Hoots. Here is my answer on a postcard. After completely dominating the first half, we needed more of the same in the second. Instead, we change to a poor mans 4-3-3 -ie- 4-5-1 which left Norwood completely isolated. We didn't win because we didn't have a go/create enough chances against a bottom three team who were there for the taking.
Great away day out though. A modernised ground with two huge terraces behind the goals gave the place a real retro feel.

Taylor Fletcher did set up the goal, but for me it's still not enough on its own and he does need to find some more goals and quickly or he'll get no extension on his contract I feel.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

It was more like a 4-2-3-1-agreed that second half Norwood became more and more isolated[and he did a sterling job]. Tomlinson finally gave him some support in the final ten minutes but what Mangan contributed,I don't even need the stamp let alone a postcard

AGree re Mangan, felt it should have been Kirby.
Ball didn't cross the line, I was in a box level with the area.
Ihewike looked the far better player at centre half.
One observation overlooked, Halifax left three up when defending against our corners - if only we could be so brave.
Bur vastly improved performance - unlucky deserved to win.

Not a bad result, and sounds like a good performance. But, let's look at the goal conceded. GTF is the player in question. On the lead up to the goal, he first puts in a half arsed tackle (jay harris makes a tackle here and they get lucky with the rebound), then he pulls out of a 50/50, before again putting in a half arsed tackle.

And fans wonder why the other fans get on players backs? That screams a player not prepared to fight for the team!!!!

I haven't seen it back since yet but the way I saw it at the time it looked like an absolutely superb block by GTF which unluckily for us bounced straight to their player to smash it in.

sums up how far we have fallen that people are happy with an improved performance and a draw away to Halifax.

I think its safe to say the top 5 is well out of our reach and we have stopped the habit getting relegated, with being out of both cups there is not a great deal to look forward too for the rest of the season

For me there's a huge difference between being happy and being accepting. We didn't lose so on that note it's definitely not a bad result.

A lot of our fans seem to have lost their grip on realism it seems which I guess fuels this negativity and moaning we are seeing.

I know it's all about different opinions but I'm just backing up where my views stem from!

Sub, I think a lot of fans are totally fed up having to watch the football that has been served up this season.

The reality is this season was our best chance of promotion, we have a more than competitive budget despite losing £250,000 funding. Next season we lose even more funding & the 2 teams who get relegated from the league will get over £400,000 more than us so it is likely to make things even harder to get promoted.

Brabin was brought in with one aim and that was to get us promoted and so far we look a long way off even making the play offs never mind get promoted.

Re: Match Discussion: Halifax Town (A)

I've been totally fed up with the type of football we have played for more than five seasons. We have played survival footie longer than I care to remember.
The difference this season is that it's gone even worse in this bad run of ours!
Your expectations are way too high, bigmart!
He was not brought in to gain promotion only as a bonus! He was brought in because he knew the league and how tough it is especially as we did bring in experienced national league players.
He was brought in to stop the root! He may yet deliver!

Yesterday, we could and should have won, but we didn't lose, a much better performance, and with a bit of luck, we would have!
This league has surprised me because there is some good teams and some really good quality players in this league and with only two going up, it's gonna be something special for those two to get promotion. I would have been happy with a play off place! That's not going to happen sadly, I'm convinced that the board will turn not only the off the field facilities and finance sorted and that the on field performances will get better, when, hoping sooner than later.
I am frustrated as the next fan but things could be worse still!
Relegation has been happening for ten years, we just need to stop this slide, we need patience and faith in the owners to get the footballing side right.
I believe that the manager must know that he needs to get the lads playing more consistent and if not be knows he will go!
The fans were actually singing his name yesterday to support the team. Until the Mekki substitution!

Who knows what will happen on the Rovers rollercoaster!

i agree with big mart we have a mix of players who have been promoted from this league before, decent established football league players and even a player who was doing the biz in the premier league 12 months ago, we should be doing so much better than we are, forget the form table halifax are in the bottom 4 at christmas because they are not a good side, yet the easily please fans and manager are happy with the point, i`m not, another 2 points dropped for me

Re: Match Discussion: Halifax Town (A)

No that's exactly what people shouldn't do, forget the form table, because their league position meant nothing at the time, it was about form to an extent and they were poor until recently, but they are not now it would seem and Tranmere were playing a team with 7 points from 3 games, so hardly struggling makeweights at that point, compared to the 5 defeats prior to that.

If Halifax continue in that vein they will definitely not be in the drop zone by May and could be considerably above it by then and currently have a game in hand.

They are still the second highest scorers outside of the top 10 and in those 3 games had conceded 4 and scored 9, including 4 against Gateshead and Dover.

That doesn't excuse the fact Tranmere had the greater number of chances and despite Halifax getting a blinder, didn't make the added chances pay off.

The players need to be converting the chances however, as the same thing happened when Woking beat them, enough chances to be ahead and win it and managed just 1 goal, so yet again against Halifax the players let Brabin down, just like at Kidderminster when they surrendered a 2 goal lead.

Brabin isn't perfect, but the players not winning those 3 games has cost Tranmere 5th and 2 points off 3rd.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

If you went last Saturday, you would have seen that Halifax still are a very poor team-in fact IMO the worst team I've seen us play this season. If they continue to play in that vein, they WILL go down.I am still baffled how we failed to win.
