Tranmere confirm today that defender Steve McNulty has now signed permanently for the Club on an 18 month deal.....

Tranmere have this afternoon confirmed that previously on loan defender Steve McNulty has now signed a long-term permanent contract which will keep him at Prenton Park until the end of the 2016/17 season.

The 32-year-old central defender who originally joined Rovers on loan in mid-October from Luton Town, apparently for personal reasons and the need to be closer to home, has since made12 appearances for the Club and scoring once in the recent 2-1 away win at Macclesfield on Boxing Day.

Steve McNulty, Luton Town.

Speaking to the Tranmere Rovers Official Website about the signing, Rovers Manager Gary Brabin said..

“I’m really pleased that we’ve agreed a permanent deal with Steve to remain at the Club.  He’s a leader, has experience of promotions out of this league and has done really well in the couple of months that he has been here. He has settled in nicely with the rest of the squad and I’m delighted to extend his stay at the Club.”

McNulty's signing will be made official on 2nd January and he will go straight into the Rovers squad as normal for the home game against Macclesfield he same day.

I think its a good move, he has been a strength at the back and its nice to have a centre back who puts his head through the ball.

I agree.

I reckon he's done a better job than many realise.

But I think we might be in the minority!!

Luton fans seem gutted he's gone and one or two have said their defence just hasn't been as good since he came to us!

I am thrilled. The Luton fans who I met at the SA vs England test also said that his leaving had been a big loss. I think that any player needs time to settle in and I think that you will see the best of him over the coming months.

I noticed a comment saying that on Twitter in response to Luton's club account tweeting the news.

I have been critical of him, but I think the defence seems to be settling now. The balance seems right with Ihiekwe's pace being used to cover behind McNulty.

Next season's captain?

I think that's exactly where I saw the same comment! Definitely Captain material for me.

Pleased with this, I think his distribution is really good. Always seems to know were a player is and has formed a good partnership at he back. Not the quickest I no but a sound footballing brain.

before the last 2 games i would of been dissapointed with this. now im happy due to his massive improvement. He looks like hes lost a stone or two and is looking sharper and up for it, also is a good strong leader and enforcer type player. Just what the team needed.

That probably signals the end of Sutton.
I am relieved he didn't get the 3.5 year deal that was touted in October.

I certainly hope not. I think Sutton has been treated very shabbily -would be in my starting eleven if fit every time.

Starting to form a decent partnership with Ihiekwe, a good signing and should be made captain straight away imo.

I agree with Hoots. I don't even know what Sutton did wrong to be dropped in the first place! It's still a mystery!

A good signing, taking into account the last 2 games.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I too think Sutton has done nothing wrong and is a solid defender.

Dutton can stay as is versatile covering a few positions from the bench, but think for now he is a bench warmer would start with McNulty and Ike as they compliment each other well.
Ike always had a head like a 50p and McNulty gobbles up the aerial battles nicely

Old school, tells it as it is and don't hold back. Just what we need. By the way SASW stop making us jealous which talk of going the cricket, could do with a week in the sun, few beers and the barmy army. Just what the doc ordered

We are a fickle lot it was only two games ago many forum members wanted him out. What a difference two wins make. I think a good signing until the end of this season, 18 months contract to long. Makes it hard for the new manager at the end of this season to get rid.

Brabin, the messiah....maybe budda....mcnulty the new goodison.....maybe higgins

A multitude of goalscoring threats...what a terrible dilemma...

Just like he promised I hasten to add

On the up mate odds at 3-1 might have 50p on that

Unless we get relegated I don't expect there to be a new Manager for a while!

I remain uncertain about this and for me the questions is whether the form of the last two games will be typical. Personally, I think that Sutton has done far more to warrant selection and he is the most consistent defender on our books.

We could have saved a wage for the greater priority of a good right back or a creative midfielder.
