Tranmere have signed midfielder Jeff Hughes on loan from Cambridge United for the rest of the season....
Tranmere have today confirmed that they have signed former Northern Ireland International midfielder Jeff Hughes on loan from Cambridge United for the remainder of the season.
The 30 year old joined Cambridge this summer after spells at Lincoln City, Crystal Palace, Peterborough, Bristol Rovers, Notts County and Fleetwood and has also made Under 21 and Senior International appearances for Northern Ireland.

Tranmere have confirmed that Hughes has been training with the Club since mid-December and will be available for today's home game against Macclesfield Town. He will wear the number 20 shirt for Rovers.
Whether the signing of Hughes is a hint towards the departure of winger Adam Mekki, whose six month deal will end in January, remains to be seen but for now he is set to be a valuable addition to the Rovers squad.
Total Tranmere would like to welcome Jeff to Tranmere and wish him all the best during his time with the Club.

I only hope he isnt going to replace the inspirational Adam Mekki who IMHO is a key player for us...skillful,energetic and a great corner/free kick taker.
He broke his leg a couple of seasons ago and never seemed to be quite as good as before. Hopefully,that has cleared up and he can make an impact for Rovers. He can play a number of roles so could be useful.
He didn't have a great game today and I thought having trained with us since mid December rather than just turning up yesterday he may have slotted in well but as TranmereFan says it's still early days yet and he wasn't woeful.
Hoots Mon He did well first part of the second half-had two good attempts on goal-then our geniuses on the touchline subbed him for our superstar Tomlinson!!!
He had a decent debut linked the play quite well and had those two chances.
We lack creativity in mid field and hopefully he provide some improvement.
The substitution may have been due to match fitness but, it should have been Stockton coming on Tomlinson has been a big disappointment much like his earlier loan at Grimsby.
