Rovers striker returns to former Club Shrewsbury Town...........

Tranmere have confirmed today that striker Andy Mangan has returned to his former Club Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 29 year-old front man joined Rovers from the Shrews last summer as Rovers looked to put together a squad capable of promotion back to the Football League. It all started well for Mangan who hit a good run of form early on and scored 7 goals in 22 appearances for the Club.

However since returning from an injury lay-off, Mangan has struggled to both perform and score, which resulted him being unable to nail down a starting place in the Rovers side, perhaps in part to the form of fellow striker James Norwood. In fact Mangan hasn’t scored for Rovers since his goal away at another of his former Clubs Wrexham on 6th October.

Speaking about the move today, Mangan said…

"At 29 years old, I want to be playing 90 minutes of football on a regular basis and the gaffer could not guarantee that I would get that at Tranmere.  Shrewsbury made an approach for me and offered an 18 month contract and the chance to be involved in League 1, which was an opportunity which was too good to miss.”

“I had a long chat with the gaffer about it and he agreed that he would not stand in the way of me going.  Any talk of there being a fall out is absolute nonsense – we get on very well and I have every confidence that he will lead the team to a play-off place.  I would like to thank the Tranmere fans for giving me such a warm welcome to the Club and I will be rooting for them for promotion."

Rovers Manager Gary Brabin added…

"We will be sorry to see Andy go but it was obviously a very tempting offer for him and I could not commit to what Shrewsbury were offering.  We are letting him go because I think it is only fair to do the right thing by the player, rather than keeping him in a role where he is getting frustrated, which doesn’t help the Club.”

”I have been trying to strengthen our squad and continue to look for players who will compliment those players we have and, in particular, provide support for James Norwood up front."

A Club Spokesman added…

"It is unfortunate that inaccurate reports of this being a done deal were leaked to the press many days before a transfer had actually been agreed.  As a Club, we try to be professional and not comment on individual players whilst negotiations are going on, but try to be as transparent as we can, as quickly as we can, as soon as deals are done."

Total Tranmere would like to thank Andy Mangan for his efforts at the club and we wish him all the best for the future.

To ''support Norwood'' we need to play 2 up front not 1 particularly at home. The substitutions and failure to change the system when Stockton came on last Saturday were just diabolical.

As for what's been printed and said about the Mangan ''goings on'',I remain very sceptical. But it's done so we must move on whatever we think.

If he had gone to Shrewsbury on loan, then the falling out story might be plausible. However, for Shrewsbury to pay for him, and offer him an 18 month contract suggested it's as stated by the player, manager and club.

In the political world if a politician denies rumours by refering to them then they are generally true

We got a couple of quid for player we got for nothing move on get over it moaning about is not going to make him do a u turn if you believe the player and manager it was a chance he couldn't say no to not that I'm not brabins biggest fan if he AND mangan had said there wasn't a fall out why as fans can't we take this as gospel because we as fans seem to always take hearsay rumours as gospel f0ker out

To be fair, if they ignore them altogether they are generally true as well!

Obviously the powers that be at PP have failed to notice we have a problem scoring goals. To allow Mangan to leave shows a lack of ambition. He's not good enough to play for Rovers but is good enough for an 18 month contract at the Shrews two leagues above us.What difference does it make who we sign (if we sign anybody at all) we only play with one up front anyway. I think that GB sees GTF as the answer and what the hell has he done since he joined us

Every last Penny is going on a Superstar Striker, they'd be none left to pay you. Thats probably why.
