A place for fans of both Tranmere Rovers and Aldershot to discuss Saturday afternoon's upcoming match at EBB Stadium......
Following four successive League wins for Rovers and a run of six wins and a defeat in the last seven matches, our match discussion thread returns once again as Rovers make the trip to Aldershot on Saturday in the National League. Tranmere will be looking to build on the four successive wins and also record a season double over Aldershot after a 2-0 win over the Shots at Prenton Park back in September.
Whether you are unable to make the game for any reason, or even if you are attending, this is the place to discuss all the pre-match build up including team line-up and score predictions, events during the match itself as well as all the post match fall-out and analysis. The thread is open to fans of both sides to discuss the events surrounding the game so if you haven't got a Message Forum accounts yet then why not sign up now?

yes, the shots have won their last 3 games and their last defeat came over a month ago against local rivals woking, a team they refer to as, 'the @#$%&.' this told to me by a friend of mine in hk that comes from aldershot. he is actually a man utd fan but always keeps a look out for the shots results. said to me that aldershot despise woking.. not sure, whether to go for the draw or the rovers to sneak it.

Rather than try to predict the score, this will be my 7th away game of the season and we havn't lost any of them.
i.e Braintree, Bromley, Wrexham, Southport, Macclesfield and Barrow.

hi deadly, just to point out a mistake. at the beginning of the thread under match discussion u stated that rovers will be looking to record a season double over the shots after a 2-0 win back in September.. we beat them 3-1 back in September. sorry for being too fussy.

Looking forward to another ground I haven't been to before.
Going for a 2-0 win
On a side note, does anyone know about parking down there? I rang Alder shot earlier and they told me that we can't use the car park at the ground. Looked on Google Maps & it all looks like pay & display multi stories around there :-(

Coltrane, I'm going to email MP and get you a seat on the team bus, you have got to be the lucky mascot ☺ unlike myself who failed to see us win at Braintree, Welling, Woking and Boreham Wood. Thankfully the jinx was broken at Bromley. Going tomorrow so hoping for a good result!!

I cannot see anything other than a comfortable 2-0 win...We have momentum ...looking back a few years to when Mansfield won this league , I think they won 21 out of there last 23 matches ...and went from mid table to league champions...so I guess anything is possible.!!..

A draw would not be the end of the world if our home form really has turned a corner. I would be surprised if Higdon starts as he has not played for some weeks although when you think of GTF fitness is a relative concept

For me a lot depends on how Jenno plays. When he plays well it makes a big difference to us. That said we should beat these. We were better at PP and we've improved again since then. Hatrick for James the worker. 3-1 for us.

Sounds like we are getting battered down one side because Norwood is not back tracking. Let's get it changed and get two up front and attack.

The second half wasn't much better, but a draw isn't a bad result considering the conditions.
Hughes replaced Jennings in the middle, with norwood out on the wing, and higdon up top.
Norwood had a quiet game, higdon didnt get any service, and no support, Hughes was poor in the middle. Macreth did ok, but needs to take his man on. Harris was MOTM fit me, he was everywhere today

I've taken a lot of stick this season for saying we've played well despite some results (when it has been the case of playing reasonably well but getting beat).
However today is the first time I can genuinely come away saying we didn't play well and never really got going.
For me there were too many changes today. I appreciate the Jennings one was forced and perhaps Mekki still isn't 100% but taking into account two changes already why play Higdon instead of Taylor-Fletcher?
Higdon looks unfit and a a result looked lost all game. We also went to 442 second half as fans seem to think is the way forward but if anything we looked worse with that formation although having Higdon as one of the two probably didn't help.
Jennings was a huge miss in the middle and if it's a two game ban then he will be a huge miss on Saturday too.
Happy with the point though against a team who had won three in a row before today - just frustrating that with a performance on a par with recent games we'd have won it!
Man of the Match for me was McNulty without a doubt! Great performance, great leader and great Captain today!

McNulty was solid, but we wasn't really tested. I though Ridehalgh was the weakest defender today, but I think that's because he was left open lots by Norwood. Vaughan was good today!
A special shout out to the 2 drummers in the alder shot end. I can only imagine they were army drummers, as they were on point all afternoon!

Nice to have the point but I fear we needed 3. A draw next week to the top squad is a result most would likely take making 2 of the last 6 possible points. That isn't going to cut it considering those behind us have several games in hand. Makes next week a must win for us in my opinion, a tough ask.

Not a terrible result, but would have been nice to get a goal. I think Higdon was a valid shout and hopefully in time he'll settle into first team action.
The team it seems didn't do as well as could be expected so he was therefore not going to be able to make as much of an impact as he would have liked, but I still think Tranmere will be more than a match for Cheltenham and good for a possible double, if the defense holds steady and a goal or two comes.

An away point is usually always measured by whats come before it. So in that respect it was a good point for me especially as the consensus is we were a bit below par. Special shout to the 300 swa who travelled down there.

A point away is ok ,but still no goals all the top teams are getting 3/4 goals if we go 2down apart from Barrow game we won't get back into the game I will stick with my prediction months ago and say we will finish about 8th no goals no promotion

How do you know it was an unforced change? Jennings was suspended so we switched Hughes into the centre. Norwood has played a lot of his career out wide so he seemed a natural fit to slot out there temporarily. It is entirely possible the move was enforced by Jennings's suspension rather than a desire to accommodate Higdon.

One thing worth mentioning, and it was the same for both teams.....
The pitch was unbelievably slippery, the players couldn't just stop and turn.
This took the option of actually playing football away, hence the really scrappy game.

Every game has been must win since we got back on form so in that respect its a poor result. If we had points to spare then fine but we HAD to win every game from now till the end to put pressure on the other teams because of the poor run of form. Im not sure weve really addressed the lack of goals I hope Higdon comes good but just looks another Fat Barsteward to me, I dont mind one or two but we have 4 in the side now.

I'm never a fan of judging a player after one (or even 2 or 3) games but I do agree that yesterday he just looked totally lost with it all.
Hopefully he can prove his point in the next game on Saturday!

I thought he held the ball up well initially (ie won it and controlled it), then lost it after about 2 seconds. I think he will come good

Not saying we will lose next week but if that does happen, one point out of six will dent our slim chance of a play off place massively! Can not see Dover, Eastleigh and Braintree all slipping up and losing games in hand so the best we can hope for is the last play off spot. Massive game next Saturday and a win is a must otherwise I believe are chance will be over!

At first view I thought the pitch looked ok from outside the stadium, but once inside I realised just how slippery it was going to get.
Didn't think this would be said at the beginning of the season, but we missed Jenno hugely! Jay Harris was poor in my opinion. Gave the ball away far too many times and the good tackles he made were due to him giving the ball away in the first place.
Ridehalgh was non existant, running away from the attacker with your back to them is criminal in my book. Couldn't fathom why he wouldn't face the ball and stand up to the attacker, although I do recognise he was being doubled up on the right wing with no back tracking (Norwood) and Jeff Hughes kept having to come out from center mid to try and help in the 2nd half.
On the subject of Hughes, he's not a center mid at all. I know we had to plug the gap of Jenno, but personally I'd of kept Higdon on the bench and put GTF in there just behind Norwood & left Harris & Maynard as the middle 2. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.
Davies was never tested really, the one shot they had on target first half was pretty much straight at him and tame.....oddly enough so was Maynard's effort!
Draw was a fair result in my eyes, although I wouldn't of been too upset had Aldershot won as I thought until the last 10-15 mins they edged it.

Big ask for Higdon to lead the line on his own has he hasn't trained for a while properly and is lacking sharpness.
Baffled as to why Norwood was shoved out wide, didn't make sense. The one big worry I have with us is lack of goals. I think we are solid, but we don't score nearly enough.

As I have said lack of goals is going to cost us dearly Brabin just can't grasp what is needed to get goals even Braintree ,bore Hamwood get more than we do Grimsby ,Cheltenham ,forest Green often score 3goals.
