Following this afternoon's 3-1 home win over Gateshead in the National League, we are asking you to vote for you Tranmere Man of the Match from the game as part of our post-match poll series.
It was a comfortable win for Rovers who were 2-0 up at the half-time break thanks to a pair of penalties from James Norwood before Michael Higdon added a third goal and his first for Rovers in the second half. Gateshead added a consolation goal out of nothing but rallied after scoring and the game was sloppy and lethargic from Rovers point of view thereafter. Tranmere hung on however for another vital three points Rovers.
The first penalty came from a handball after Liam Ridehalgh's ball across the pitch had found Mekki whose cross met the hand of the Gateshead defender, leaving Norwood to dispatch the penalty for a 1-0 lead. Then just 17 minutes later it was Mekki involved again when he cut inside the defender in the area and was clearly felled as he headed for goal leaving Rovers' top scorer to finish off a great penalty for his and Rovers' second of the game.
After the break, Tranmere struck early to make it 3-0 when Jake Kirby's superb cross left Michael Higdon with a header that he couldn't miss to the delight of the Rovers players and fans. Gateshead were allowed a way back into the game after some poor Rovers defending saw Davies make a great save from an unchallenged shot before an unchallenged rebound was forced home by former Rovers loanee Danny Johnson.
Rovers seemed to ease off following that goal and from the home side's point of view the game became sloppy but they were still able to comfortably hold on for a much deserved win that kept Rovers in the play-off positions and now four points clear of sixth placed Wrexham.

I was baffled when the match sponsors gave it to Mekki who was okay IMO but no better.I thought there were a number of far more worthy candidates. The fact that others seem to agree makes me even more surprised.
Jennings for me, made the midfield tick which is key to the overall team performance. Hughes also did well. Mekki always a threat too.
Hard to really pick as good overall performance
x3 for Jennings. I like Mekki, he's got good feet, he's fast enough and works hard. I just feel like there's always a bit of a lack of end product with him. He was good today, but I feel 3 or 4 were more deserving of MOM.
Mekki for me...he terrified them...the only way they could stop him was to kick,pull,shove and body check him...to his credit he dusted himself down and got on with the job...getting better with every game.
Could of gone to everyone of them. My vote went to Kirby though. The lad has paid his dues for long enough and his current quality & potential both shone bright on Saturday.
