The last game was their first win in 23 so this is a real opportunity not just for 3 points but also to boost the goal difference with a three or four goal victory
Hoping for a good 2 or 3-0 win
If this doesn't fire them up, then I don't know what will.
We're looking to get in the playoffs, and they're second from bottom. If we don't win then we don't deserve to be in the playoff fight.
for Jk, and for us
I want to see fire from start to end
How come we allowed them to have so many efforts on goal?
On a day when others have slipped up it is a massive disappointment.
Is it any wonder that there are those of us who cannot see any reason to think that the progress off the pitch is matched by progress on the pitch. Here we are at the end of the season and we cannot retain a lead against the second worst team in the division. This is not a one game reactions he but is grounded in the failure of the management to remotely improve the striker issue over the season or to improve our home performances over those of the last two years.
Norwood should have been subbed kept taylor fletcher on.
Their keeper kept them in the game in first half and we should have been least 2 up before they scored.

The boo boys are irrelevant, many 100% supporters do not see the progress on the field that is claimed by others.Todays result and home form in general add strength to those concerns. When we beat Bromley I thought that we had come to terms with this league.Since then we have lost more home games than we have won and every management decision aimed at sorting the striker situation has taken us backwards rather than forwards. This alarms me in terms of progressing next year

Are you for real. Support was fantastic again. They say player need the fans to sing, fans need something from the player to sing for. Few pints down in the sports now, so starting to feel a bit better.
No matter what league we are in next season, we are starting again from scratch. So if we do somehow make it up, it's sill back square one.
Another pint I think
As is always the case should have been out of sight by half-time and they get a goal which had about three deflections in the box before being deflected home.
For me, until Taylor-Fletcher went off we were easily the better side and were always favourites to win but for the second home game in a row his departure from the pitch saw us fall to pieces.
Nevertheless we are still in the play-offs with two away games to come which we should be hopeful of winning and just need to make sure we beat at least one of Wrexham or Grimsby.
Today was disappointing but isn't a disaster!
Quote:agreed but I bet there will be one person who will put so much spin on it if he's not a politician he should because he'd make a good one yes they got lucky with the first goal the midfield just let them run with the ball to often for my liking I think we have blown the little chance we had of going up I'll still be there next season need to get some pace in the side we had lots of space to run into in the first half but didn't exploit it thought jack done well when he come not many pluses in the second half yes the header was on target but I could ran down from were I was sitting and cleared that and I'm in a castFiftyyearsarover
Dress it up all you want but we are abysmal what a poor excuse for a hopeful promotion side and don't come up with the excuse like they could have been emotional after the death of JK none of the players ever knew or met him so not having that one ,they and Brabin are a disgrace they let the club down and the memory of jk down if it had been top 2teams that had beaten us fair enough but welling disgraceful
Welling are/were very poor. But they remained organised and fully committed. Really those two things are about all they brought to the party. Contrast their efforts in clearing two balls off the line with the keeper beaten to the efforts of our keeper who didn't actually make an effort withe either of their goals. And Davies was far from the worst player we had on display today. Not good enough, all round. This, together with Braintree, were basically no-shows by us, but Braintree at least are a reasonable side.
Quote:St Yates's day
Thought we played as well as I've seen for ages 1st half (admittedly I'm no longer a regular) Totally baffled by the GTF substitution we had no brains when he reluctantly went off, want to hear Brabin' s thought process on this one???
I totally agree with this. As defensive of Brabin as I've been the taking off of GTF today just didn't make sense really.
Also agree about the way we started the game - some great stuff to watch!

I departed with 1 min to go, just been told there were a few boos at full time. Is that it. Can't believe you can even consider saying it. They came in a taxi, says it all to me. If Dover go up, what's the attendance on a Tuesday night v Hartlepool going to be? 600 at a league game. Get a grip Ming, and smell the coffee and don't blame the fans. O u didn't blame them, but for me you are insulting them.

And why did Hughes and Kirby switch wings in the first half? Kirby and Vaughan were linking really well.
I'd forgotten this, good point and definitely something to pin on the manager. That was very odd. Hughes is so one-footed that he has to play centrally or on the left. This did derail us after their first goal.
As for GTF, while I agree generally about his play, once Hughes went off we lost the natural link between midfield and him. The introduction of Mackreth, who was OK actually, meant that he was never going to keep up with play and we went more direct. It wasn't so much that he was poor, more that the midfield weren't getting the ball to him because they were useless and he was being bypassed. I did think it was probably the right move.

I certainly didn't think the support was fantastic, it wasn't particularly good or bad outside of anything to do with Kingy. I have no issue with the boos at full time. It wasn't good enough and they were deserved. There were more than a few boos though!

First 18 mins we played well. Then it fell apart from there. Why was we hitting long ball after ball in the second half for them to clean up. We was terrible today. From the keeper right to the forwards. It was a pathetic performance from a playoff chasing team. The fans have every right to boo it was pathetic.

Well done Welling on a thoroughly deserved win. Their second goal was excellent. A passing move that shredded our defence, before walking it in. So easy they then started show boating.

At what point did I it was just one of those days?

No one mentioned the wind or the Ref? We did boss the game for more than the first 20 minutes regardless of what happened afterwards.

Think it was me who said that, and I stand by it. We started well scored a cracking goal then conceded a poor one. Then tried to change things to get the winner but as football has a habit of biting you back . We had some great form recently, can't just forget that after one loss. We are still in with a chance.
1st 20 mins we looked decent but didn't score the 2-3 goals from 6 very good chances so didn't kill team off.

It was a shoot yourself in the foot performance for sure, but how do you know none of the players never met or knew King?
As for Brabin, he put a team out capable of creating more shots against the the other team, so I don't think it's his fault, it's the players who could not finish what they started.
Still in the mix, but a win would have put more pressure on other teams, so whilst I'm not happy with this result, I still think the playoffs is possible.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I would think that it's fairly certain that the vast majority[with maybe the odd exception]never met nor knew him.

Where was Sahr Kabba today anyway for them? Very notable by his absence from the squad completely! Was he injured or did he just not have the bottle to play at Prenton Park after his cheating antics at their place back in September?
They didn't need him -the lad up front,Daniel[30] did a decent job and scored the practice match winner.
We don't dominate at home and press the opposition back so they always have a chance to get back in. This is because the midfield are too deep and both Welling goals were a result of that.
It's also clear that either (or both) the issue of what is the best partnership up front or playing it long all the time is not helping either.
So I don't feel demoralised because of the damage caused to our play off bid (we are still very much in it after all), it's more the concern that the future isn't promising with this style of play.

My guess is that they came up by train so only paid for those who would actively contribute.
Or possibly, they thought that any reception that Kabba might have got would have been counter productive to their match plan. They deserve some kudos for leaving some flowers by the John King statue in his memory.

You may be right. But if you were in his position, would you have fancied it?
It is the manager that decided on three occasions that unfit strikers deserved to take precedence over those already on the books.I am not suggesting that Margetts or Stockton are ideal but the other options have been no better. We will never know all the details of the Manganese situation but the way he was treated by Brabin would hardly have strengthened a desire to stay.If the failure to bring in effective strikers is not the. rEponsibility of the manager, then I would love to know who we expect to solve the problem.
I had hoped it would be a season of progress after a period of adjustment. Since the the Bromley game we have lost more home games than won.Does the manager bear some responsibility for that?

Maybe the decision was made by somebody else and he didn't have the choice.
It doesn't matter how you play, it doesn't matter how many shots you have, it's doesn't matter if you dominate a match. What matters is the score at the end of the game.
The fact that we have lost about 1/3 of our home games this season, shows issues deeper then being unlucky. We don't have a squad capable of:
Breaking down teams
Or
Grinding out results
How many time have we conceded less then 5 mins after scoring this season?
Season tickets sales will plummet if we are still in this league next season.
Simply not good enough

Is he seriously suggesting that we improved after GTF was taken off? He just talks bilge and grasps at ever smaller straws.
There's nothing in that statement that said we improved. We did create quite a few chances once we had the three forwards on - more than we had in the preceding 10/15 minutes for sure. We should have had a penalty, we hit the post, another grazed the bar, Higdon put one just wide, Jennings back-passed to the keeper, that's off the top of my head. Getting more good opportunities doesn't mean better in a pure football sense necessarily, it can just mean we created more chances and I think we did, quite comfortably. And I would agree that GTF was too deep. Norwood was far too isolated.
Got to start next week with Hughes for Jennings, GTF playing behind Nors, with Jake and Jack down the wings,
Yes we probably could have won yesterday, but like so many games this season, more so the ones at home we didn't. and whilst yes okay we lost to a side that a couple of weeks ago hadn't won since October is it so hard to concede that they probably deserved it, and whilst the thought of being forced to getting used to such reverses is a really scary one, is it any scarier than the realisation we must all have now, of just how hard it is going to be to to get out of this 'tin pot' league full stop, which I guarantee is going to be a lot harder than any of us thought it would be when we kicked off in August. I don't know about you guys, but the fact the Grimsby are still here some 6,7 years later scares the life out of me.
It might not be a great league quality wise, but @#$%&, it's certainly competitive, and in truth, even though if results went with us, we may yet sneak into the play off's, we simply aren't and haven't consistently been anywhere near competitive enough, either collectively or individually to sustain even any real play off challenge, and with the realisation now fully sunk in to us all that in all likelihood we will unfortunately still be trekking down to Bromley and Braintree next year, we really need to start planning for the new season now.
I further believe even though he's had my support since day one, not least just because he's our manager, that inevitably it will mean bringing someone new to both make the required cull, and more importantly to oversea what must surely be some bloody major surgery
It is clear, first four games apart, that we need players with more commitment, more guile, more hunger, and certainly more pace, from back to front
The board have to wake up to the fact, and am sure they will, that contrary to what some think, we don't have a divine right to beat everyone, if only it was that simple, we don't even have the right to beat the teams at the bottom or so called smaller teams, and it's madness in such a competitive league to think we do.
That said it is so annoying when realising that all the teams in the relegation zone have taken points of us and if we are going to get out of this league those types of reversals do have to be eradicated.
If the likes of Dover and Braintree, both of whom play very direct football, can manage, on merit to get themselves into the play off's and do so with crowds much less than a quarter of ours and presumably have wage bills to reflect that difference, then what could, perhaps what should we be doing with the right players and the right leadership, neither of which unfortunately we have had this season which is why we are where we are and why huge changes are surely inevitable.Twenty points off the leaders says it all.
Apologies for length of post, and I promise to shorten all subsequent ramblings significantly.

Agreed. You're probably safe with long posts. Most of us haven't got the attention span for them.

Excellent post. No need to apologise for the length. The ones that I don't like are those crammed with stats which often don't prove anything other than that the author has not been to the game.

A very intelligent way of saying the team and manger are poo, don't disagree with any of it other than always thought it would be difficult and we had to hit the ground running, which we in fact did, goal difference of 5 after two games and 6 points, how things have changed. Because the league is so tough we need a man at the helm, who has great tactical knowledge an understanding of the game and how to change it and can spot a player, Monsieur Harvey for me but I fear so much Homer will be still with us come 1st August 2016.

Only comment I feel of worth is the ref missing a very obvious handball in the area during the final minutes - absolute @#$%&, it just about sums up this league and the so called officials. I suggest the FA hire clowns from a passing circus to perform in future games (apologies to all if this is already the case).
More ref fiasco as excuses then, bearing in mind the refs are the same for Cheltenham, FG, Grimsby, Braintree, Eastleigh, Dover, Wrexham. You will not get every decision in every game and it all equals out as has been shown in a couple of high profile returns, West Hams woeful red y'day equality for the terrible one Palace had in the reverse fixture.
If Tranmere scored more goals than the other sides and stopped conceding as many goals and actually concentrated for 90+ minutes the refs decision wouldn't matter. Gary Brabin should be worrying about what he can control, and not what he can't but he seems to spend to much time bothering over custodians decisions it would be of equal use for him to spend that time pondering the England team selection because he can influence that just as much as the refs decisions. It's probably half the reason he doesn't see what's actually going on and then talks sh£t in post matches and can't alter the teams performance next week.

Yesterday's ref was one of the better ones we've had this season. We certainly didn't lose because of him.

What is ironic is the song that is sung to a very small bunch of away support (did you come in a taxi ) Welling came by taxi and took 3point
They came in a taxi, the way Welling walked through them Rovers turned up as out of body experiences.

I saw players hiding in the second half, no one taking responsibility, no one wanting to drive us forward. It reinforced my feelings of never really believing we would get into the playoffs.
A game that to be honest is symptomatic of how we have been for most home games this season.

That old 'the referee is to blame' chesnut always angers me as well. Dont get me wrong in the heat of the moment, partisan as we all are, it's inevitable the man in black will be the reason for all our problems, but am sick to death of people always harping on about the 'ref cost us'
That said at the time I am as guilty as most, but then reflection sets in and if we are being honest we realise that whilst yes there was a dubious free kick, or something he missed, defeats was rarely down to the officials and most certainly not as often as we would all like to claim, and the master of apportioning blame to the man in black is I'm afraid Brabin who seems to use it as genuine mitigation for all our inadequacies.
As with all clubs small and big, we all believe the officials are to blame, but yet we all forget, in fact totally ignore all the decisions over the course of a season, hell even in the course of the last game that much to our astonishment went our way.
They don't count of course.
However, go on the forums of the teams we have just beat and you'll no doubt see that invariably their fans are equally orchestrated in condemning the same officials for not giving them, that handball or that penalty. You'll never stop it, it's one of the great things about football at any level, but if anyone thinks that even in part, incompetent officials are to blame for the predicament in which we now find ourselves, I suggest you need to look elsewhere as for many reasons, some obvious some not so, that's all pretty much self inflicted

Totally agree
The initial mention in the post was - the only comment worth a mention.... I did not feel like making ANY comments on the manager / team selection or what the hell is going on in training and how it transcribes onto the pitch on match days - all of these point have been made previously (many times), I do not want to repeat for the sake of doing so, but the standard of these refs do annoy me - they are expected to be fair and honest - and yes that applies to all matches and for all teams.
However there could well be more surprise's in the league play off standings, noting who has still to play who (have a look at the run in fixtures), it's not all over just yet.
It's also quite interesting now to see who is 'playing' for places next season (only FIVE players are currently signed for next year, McNulty, Norwood, Sutton, Stockton & Marguetts), going to be several new faces me thinks.

Interesting to note that readers have 'picked' on the ref comment from my post- it was made only as it seems as though the handball was missed entirely on most 'other; match reports, and on that point I am absolutely correct, the incident should have resulted in a penalty - the ref had a very good view of the handball, as did a large section of the crowd, most would have settled for a draw after such a performance, yes generally that ref had a fairly decent game - with that one very glaring exception, full stop.

Maynard is and AFAIK Margetts isn't.
