Cheshire Senior Cup Final Details

Tranmere to face Stockport County in the Cheshire Senior Cup Final at the end of the month......
Tranmere will take on Stockport County in the Final of this season's Cheshire Senior Cup at the end of April and the date, location and admission details have now been confirmed by the Cheshire FA. The game will take place on Tuesday 26th April at Nantwich Town FC's Weaver Stadium with a 7:45pm kick off.
Although the match is still a few weeks away, it will be sandwiched between what could be two vital games for the Rovers first team (the away game at Eastleigh and the potentially crucial final League game of the season at home to Grimsby) so this match is perhaps more likely to feature the Rovers Youth team and perhaps one of two fringe first team players.
To reach the Final, Rovers have won four matches in the competition and also scored fourteen goals in the process. They began the campaign with a 2-1 win away at Runcorn Town in the preliminary round on a foggy evening before dispatching Cheadle Town 6-3 also way from home in the first round proper.
A 5-0 drubbing of Cammell Laird (again away from home) followed, before a tightly fought 1-0 home win over Chester at Prenton Park saw Rovers progress the final encounter with Stockport County who boast former Rovers players in their squad including Gareth Roberts and Kayode Odejayi.
County saw off Congleton Town 2-0 away from home before a 4-1 home win over Crewe Alexandra in the next round. A 3-0 semi-final home win over Northwich Victoria then saw County through to the final against Rovers.
Admission prices for the game as confirmed by the Cheshire FA are as follows:
Adults - £10
Concessions - £7

I've tweeted the Cheshire FA twitter account (who released the news) asking them to define concessions, considering under 12's are £2 for a league game, yet from the info they've provided it seems as though a child would have to pay £7 for this game

You forgot to add the date Paz which I'm led to believe is Tuesday 26th April (I think).

Well they seem to be getting very excited about it on the Stockport Forum and twitter-Stockport scoring the winner [2-1] after 118 minutes against our youngsters and Hogan and Hill[for the first 90] and Mackreth

There were 503 fans there tonight and unsurprisingly Stockport had most of them - as one of their fans said to us himself, it was their "Cup Final" tonight.
I have to say that although it was a great performance from our kids (plus 90 minutes of two regular first teamers) against Stockport's full strength side, if Stockport are the benchmark for a mid-table (not even struggling) National League North side then the Division as a whole must be absolutely appalling to watch.
Our kids gave them a great game and were unlucky to miss out on penalties by just a couple of minutes - well done lads!

I saw Stockport play Nuneaton at Edgeley Park earlier this season. They were appalling and only got a late equaliser from a quick breakaway [from an Everton loanee]because Nuneaton were very defensive and tried to sit on a 1-0 lead. Nuneaton are one point outside the playoffs and have a game in hand which they play tomorrow.They were better than Stockport but that was not saying much.
I'm not at all surprised that our kids gave Stockport a run for their money.
I also know a big Stockport supporter who told me a couple of weeks ago that he was really looking forward to see how got on against us. When I told him it would be against our kids,he couldn't believe it and said he'd be very disappointed if that were the case.

503 fans there tonight of which over 400 were County fans. We may not be the best in our division but for some of your posters to any it must be an a palling league shows a bit of hypocrisy as I recall a lot of your fans at the start of the season saying if we can't finish above the likes of Braintree etc then we are in trouble. I saw Tranny against Welling a couple of weeks ago... Both clubs are where we are for a reason and your better than though attitude won't help you one bit next season. You were well beaten tonight in all departments and were fortunate to keep the score close. Fair play to some of your young lads , the keeper and number 5 were good. Credit where it's due lads.

Well beaten? Seriously? Yes you hit the woodwork three times but we missed a number of good chances including the one right at the death that could have made it 2-2!
It was one of the most entertaining and evenly balanced Senior Cup games I've ever watched (and I go to most of them) and it was certainly entertaining.
Congratulations on the Trophy but to think anything other than you scraped past our youth side would be inaccurate in my opinion.

If you check the highlights think you will find the woodwork was struck five times, we had five first teamers missing as well. As you say entertaining game though.
Hope things work out for you at the weekend, maybe another twist in the season.Gannon will turn County in the right direction next season and if I was Palios I would give Brabin another crack rather than start afresh.
The Conference National is becoming more like the old Division 4 now with a smattering of bankrolled clubs like Solihull and Fylde always appearing,could be in the these leagues for the long run, Wrexham almost ten years out of the league now.

How far away are our young attacking players from breaking into the first team set up Deadly?
They seem to be taking their chances on the reports I've read?
Maybe we should be blooding a few in Pre Season games? Could be to our advantage if they can rise to the challenge?
Always good to see our own develop and do well.

I won't name any names individually at what is a sensitive and emotional time for the second years as they await news on whether or not they will get a Pro contract for next season.
The main attacking two are decent enough players but can be particularly wasteful in front of goal - something I put down to a learning process I guess which can only be worked on in the hope things improve.
In terms of other players I believe there are seven second year scholars awaiting news and for me there is at least one if not two who should be certainties to get one but that's not to say they won't sign three or four like last year either!
Are any of them ready for the first team? Probably not. Would I offer them a pro deal to give them a chance to get themselves ready? Absolutely.
As you say there is no harm in bedding them in during pre season in July/August and seeing how they do then send them out on loan if necessary as the four new Pros from this season have done.
