It is possible that Miller picks up another yellow card in this match, he could well 'be up for' a bit of eager action and goes too far, which could be in our favour in the long run - same as Chester's player, now out for six games (one of which is against us). Prediction - a draw (but love us to win & make it 4 out of 4 under MM).

It seems like if you slug it out with Dover toe to toe they have the firepower as well as the supply lines to inflict serious damage as Forest Green found out when losing 4-3 there earlier this season (NB FGR have the second best defensive record after us and were that Dover result to be expunged from the records then they have only conceded 7 goals in 16 matches.)

A more cautious approach, a la Gary Brabin, may seem to be the way to go, and try and nick a single goal. It would not surprise me therefore if Mickey overloads the midfield, plays Cook up top on his own and we see a 0-0 played out. I'd take that.

If on the other hand Mickey plays the three man midfield with Almond playing behind a front two we could see something similar to the FGR result there with goals a plenty. Unfortunately with Norwood (and potentially Steve Jennings) missing I fear a 3-1 reverse with that system. (I can talk about multiple scenarios as this isn't the prediction league!)

Having said that if we DO take them on with a three man midfield and come out on top it would give a massive belief to players and fans alike. The one thing that could be in our favour is that it seems like their pitch is very wide. It could give Tollitt the opportunity to put in a man of the match performance laying on two and scoring one in a 3-2 victory. (There, I think that covers all bases!)

Brabin unashamedly playing for a 0-0 draw after my very long train trip and the train cost being virtually double what I paid last year are the two main reasons I will not be going.

Shame that Hoots as they have fixed the line at Folkstone and it is only an hour from St Pancras on the Express.

Getting the old bus from Folkestone to Dover was one of the less problematic parts of the trip.

I fear that it will take more than one goal for us to win this game and with Norwood out can not see that happening. As I have said in a previous thread our lack of a natural goal scorer could come back and bite us big time. Need the midfield to contribute but have not seen to much of that happening yet! As much as I dislike saying it I think this will be MM first loss, 3-1.

Sorry but no way. Fight fire with fire, you can't go looking for a point if you want out of this league in any game. FGR could quite easily go the rest of the season without dropping a point. The only way out of this hole is go for everything. To even suggest a point in any game is wrong in my opinion.

Do what works the best. Kirby is scoring, cooks capable, so why go defensive, as it's a negative thing to do.

Defensive against a team like that is the way you might expect one of the bottom 4 teams to play not top 4 teams.

Man City wouldn't be defensive against Liverpool very often, so the best thing is to either play attacking football against Dover, or go for a balanced 4-42 style system, but anything involving 5 in the middle or defense, would be potentially like a red rag to a bull if Dover intended to go attacking, as it would look like you have a modicum of fear playing them, that you go defensive and Tranmere should have no reason to fear anyone.

Dover supporters to a man claim they cannot defend and both teams will score, they fancy miller against mcnulty but how many times have we heard that so far this season.

I think we need to do what fgr did at aldershot and really try to blitz them straight from kick off

The team new sounds like it is nominally a 4-5-1 set up with Tollitt and Stephenson either side of the three main midfielders Harris, Maynard and Hughes. With the criticism of Stephenson's defending being well noted if not pronounced by the previous regime it sounds like it could even be a 4-3-3 set-up with both Tollitt and Stephenson used to occupy their (attacking) fullbacks rather than defend against them.

It's a surprise to see Jake Kirby omitted from the squad completely but I'm expecting plenty of goals this afternoon. Based on this team selection (one of) my previous comment(s) still stands. 3-2 Tranmere, Tollitt to score one and create the other two in a man of the match performance...

I am quite happily eating plenty of humble pie with my pessimistic prediction of Dover outscoring are low scoring team. Happy days.

What a result and a great way to finish on a high, till our next match vs Chester in 2 weeks.The break will give us a chance to nurse a few knocks,although on this form it maybe better to keep playing.Whether its possible or desireable to bring a fixture forward for next Saturday I dont know.

Anyone knows what happened with Jake Kirby? Is he injured or is something afoot? No mention of him in the match report on club website... I can't believe he was dropped from the squad in it's entirety so I am suspecting an offer has been received????

Can't see us getting an offer for Kirby. We're unlikely to sell him to another club at this level and can't sell him higher at this point. I suppose a loan with view to transfer deal is an option. I guess a knock or illness was far more likely.

As I am now 53 years a rover, I have learned to always look on the brightside simply because bad times usually lead to good eventually. Micky has demonstrated that the players we have are not as bad as was being made out. We just had a prior manager who didn't know how to get the bed out of them.i was "joshing" 😉

It is not uncommon for a team to well when a new manager comes without that revival lasting.Is Eastleigh experiencing that phenomena as the Moore honeymoon no longer looks quite so convincing

I dont know. Normally yes but the players appear to be being used effectively. That makes a bug difference.

Great result and so happy again with the Mickey Magic. My next visit to Footie HQ will be vs Chester so bring it on and cant wait.

Think the reason Tollett is out on loan is to improve his final pass and finish in real match time. We know he has pace and can carry the ball but can he turn this to match winning advantage. He has started to answer that question today. If he produces more like this, we are unlikely to get another bite of the cherry after January.

I went today, and we were good, very very good, Tollitt was a class apart, but should note their 'star' striker was kept quiet by McNulty and Sutton.
The team selection did surprise me a little, with no Kirby / Duggan / Almond. I suspect that MM is using different players / formation depending on who the opposition are with options on the bench. It is difficult to argue for a different line up on the back of a 4-1 victory. Also as an aside Mr & Mrs P were at the game sat in the stand with the fans.

Proper manager enuff said, this is the same bunch of players being used in squad rotation by the Mellon whom the person whose name shall not be mentioned told us we're not good enough outside the first 11 and needed some renforcment and a couple of goalscorers. Are you watching No name, I belive the adidas shop in Chesire Oaks are taking on.

Kirby going nowhere . He rolled his ankle in training yesterday . Was down to play but it was too swollen .

Strangely, maybe we would not have won 4-1 if he had have been fit?

In interviews to date Mickey has made it clear that his philosophy is, if the team has won\played well that the man wearing the shirt keeps the shirt. I wouldn't be at all surprised if today's starting 11 is the starting 11 against Chester in a fortnight's time (roll on, can't wait!) irrespective of anyone regaining fitness between now and then.

Jennings thought he may have been fit today so he is obviously close to a return.
Just got back! We were brilliant after the first 20 minutes. I had feared Miller might get the better of our back four but he did not get a sniff. This result would and could not have happened 4 weeks ago- we were superb and Cookie was brilliant in the air. Tollitt was magnificent a class apart and it has been a long time to see a Rovers player thrill in such a way! Not since the great Johnny Morrissey. If we get the opportunity we should do all in our power to keep him for the rest of the season. He is so good he will take us to promotion!

We might have a chance to keep Tollitt for the season ex rover cook is manager at Portsmouth and like MM is still a rovers fan .he knows he will be looked after by rovers and the national League is a good learning curve and it will definitely toughen him up last year rovers were often bullied out of a game but no one can do it now ,what a bonus if we got the season out of him the best loanee since cassidy,

whilst out on the razz last night ( wearing my TRFC shirt ) I was approached by this guy , who said to me, 'are u hong kong rover?' to which I said 'yes'. turned out to be a fellow forum member that doesn't seem to post much on here anymore.. a Birkenhead lad that goes under the forum name 'goal attack.' does anyone remember him ? he is in hk on business and we had a couple of pints together talking the rovers. when I checked the result at dover on livescores on my mobile and told him, the 'oh Birkenhead is wonderful' song started ringing out from the pub, lol.

ive just viewed the goals about 30 mins ago, still feeling a bit hungover from last night, lol. actually stayed out in the pub to watch the late palace v Liverpool game which didn't finish till 2:30am here but was too drunk to remember much about it , lol. got home about 3am.

No not at all that is your imterpretation. I was simply saying that it is too soon yet to make judgements about whether the squad was good all along but poorly managed, Read the post and I acknowledge that the result is heartening. Faltering would be disheartening and you dont support Tranmere for more than sixty years without always wanting them to do well.

A great result and a great impact made by Tolitt and Cook gets 2 as well. 4 consecutive wins, plenty of goals scored, only 1 conceded.

The omens look very good and Mellon deserves credit for making a side that had floundered after a fairly impeccable start, then under Carden a progressive recovery into one that looks more than capable of pushing for promotion.

Hopefully things continue in the same vein and the results keep coming.
