1. 49 years.

2. I live in London and can't get to the games, i sometimes watch us on i-follow or any live TV games, and if money permits i try and watch us in or around London.

3. February,1974 at home to Bournemouth, league game 1-1 draw, my dad took me, i was 9 years old and we stood on the open end on a grey overcast day, i vaguely remember Steve Coppell bombing down the wing on the Borough Rd side. the game was played on a Sunday lunch time coz we couldn't use the floodlights coz of the nationwide power cuts at the time of the 3 day week/winter of discontent.. the game had to finish before the winter darkness descended.

4. Bolton and Boreham Wood play off finals.

5. Too many to mention, lol..was absolutely gutted losing to Aston Villa in semi 2nd leg, i came very close to punching a Villa steward at the end of the game, but i held back, he was a smirking tw*t.,as for worst ever performance, a 0-3 home defeat to Halifax in the Frank Worthington era. Halifax were dog poo, Rovers were dog poo x 100..it was woeful.

6. Ian Muir, he was classy classy classy.

7. Believe it or not, it was a game we lost 1-2 at Elm Park, Reading in an FA Cup 3rd round replay back in 1989..We were superb that night and at times we completely played them off the park, and they were a division higher than us at the time aswell..complete travesty that it was them advancing into the 4th round and not us..we really turned it on that night.

8. A toss up between Johnny King and Bryan Hamilton.

9. i liked the quaint old grounds at Oxford Utd and Shrewsbury Town..loads of character..

10. Probably the 2 games vs Wrexham.

i love threads like this, i really hope everyone joins in, and it will be fascinating to read all the different answers and memories.

1. 32 years.

2. My job keeps me away far too regularly. So either on the odd occasion we're on TV or online waiting for the scores to refresh.

3. Tranmere 3-2 Brentford, 1992. My cousin took me. It was a couple of days before my 12th birthday. We were 2-0 down at HT. Pat Nevin with 2 and Kenny Irons with another to secure the win.

4. 2001 Worthington Cup final at the old Wembley, or the 1994 Coca-Cola Cup semi-finals against Aston Villa.

5. Back to back relegation.

6. I have many favourites...but torn between John Aldridge and John Morrissey.

7. Can't say if it was definitively the best or not...but I was able to be in the locker room before the 1992 game against Wolves at Prenton Park. I don't wholly know how or why that came about but I was able to touch Aldridge's boots before the game and he went on to score a hat-trick. We won 3-0 against a good Wolves team.

8. Johnny King.

9. Not been to many away games...visited Porthmadog for a pre-season friendly somewhere in the 90s, was at The Racecourse for the 2-2 draw with Wrexham in 2018, and Eastleigh away when we won 1-0 in 2016. The Racecourse was the better stadium, but the SWA were loud and proud at the Eastleigh game.

10. I'm moving slightly closer soon, so will be getting to any game I can. The first one back, whoever that may be, is the one I'm looking forward to the most.

4. Best moment watching Tranmere?
Reaching League Cup Final in 99-00, I was in school at the time and am from Crosby over the Liverpool side so it was great to be able to turn up for PE with pride in my Tranmere shirt for all the stick I used to get before the cup runs. Was great doing better than the reds and blues in both domestic cups that season

5. Worst moment watching Tranmere?
2-1 home defeat to Welling, we looked almost Sunday League!

6. Who has been your favourite Tranmere player and why?
Jason Koumas, simply the most talented individual who went on and had a good career that imo should have been far better. We got the best fee the club ever generated for a player off West Brom (can't include PJ doing a dodgy deal with himself with the Simmo add ons that never materialised). The photo from his goal at Goodison was my PC desktop background for years after

7. Best game you have seen Rovers play?
1-0 v West Ham gets the nod over the Everton and Southampton cup games for me just because of the quality in the West Ham side. Look at the names they had, can anyone see us beat such a quality line up these days? Di Canio, Wanchope, Joe Cole, Carrick, Ferdinand, Lampard et al and we win from a Nick Henry volley

8. Best Tranmere manager?
Logically, John King but I never went under the great man so it is a toss up between Aldo for what we did in the cups or Micky for the back to back promotions which is the only upward trajectory I have witnessed

9. Favourite away ground?
Griffin Park, shame Brentford have moved as it was always a top away day as was Saltergate the former home of Chesterfield

10. Game you're most looking forward to this season?
Barrow just because it is next up. It is pointless getting carried away by what may be, too much hullabaloo and nonsense about Wrexham for example because of how they are bankrolled. People just perpetuate the attention mechanism whereas we just have to focus on what we do. We have a decent squad to be competitive and I reckon we can get at least top 7 in what will be a competitive league

1. Have been a fan since 1991.
2. When I get to the games, I sit in the Kop. Though due to being exiled, I more often follow from my armchair these days.
3. First game was a 0-0 draw with Swindon in the 91/92 season
4. My best moment as a kid was watching, I think, Shaun Garnett score an injury time goal during the 91/92 season. You can't really match the memories that you make as an impressionable child.
5. I remember naively thinking that we would avoid relegation from the 2nd tier under Aldo, and it was a reality check when we went down and have stayed below that level ever since.
6. Pat Nevin was an exciting player to watch and the sort of level we can only dream of now (I will give a mention to Chris Shuker who, for one season prior to injury, was capable of beating his man and creating chances out of nothing).
7. I recall watching Igor Stimac make his debut in a flat back four for Derby when we stuck 5 past them in 95/96. Jim Smith promptly changed to a sweeper formation for the rest of the season and Derby went about 20 games unbeaten. We sank down the table and JK was sacked.
8. JK has to be the best manager for almost taking us to the Premier League.
9. It seems bizarre now that we went to Maine Road and beat Man City 2-1 in the 96/97 season.

4. Newport Playoff final. Whole family there, at the time my 3 yr old sons first Tranmere game.

6. Kenny Irons. I played CM as a kid, had his name on my top running round pretending to be him. Gutted when he left
7. Everton cup game. Outplayed them, Only time many of us had some bragging rights over our friends/family. Southampton cup game up there as well.

5. Tranmere v Peterborough 0 -5 FA Cup 2017. Danny Lloyd winding up the kop and numpties responding. 550 mile round trip for that!
6. James Norwood. Without him, we would still be languishing somewhere non league. On performances and ability only, either Aldo or Ian Muir.
7. Bolton league Cup semi 2nd leg. A very special night. I watched from the Paddock that night. The view of the kop in full voice pre kick off took my breath away.
8. No contest. JK but credit must go to Bryan Hamilton who managed on a shoestring and kept us going.
9. Corny but it has to be Wembley.
10. First game of the season. Barrow at home.

hi wozza, you mentioned that top of the table 6-0 home win vs Bristol City in 1989. i agree mate, that game would have to rank very very highly as one of the best ever all round Rovers performances i have seen..i watched it from the main stand and we completely blitzed them and they had no answer whatsoever.

1. Since 2005 - Prior to this, I was a lifelong Liverpool supporter since 1974/5 season. I went to a handful of European away games, never had a season ticket, but went to quite a lot of games. The last game I went to was Liverpool v Deportivo la Coruna. I just lost interest in EPL football.

2. I first had a a season ticket in Johnny King. Now I have a season ticket in the Kop stand. I prefer the view from Johnny King.

9. I don't really have a favourite away ground. But I worked away a lot in Europe and the UK. Three thing I like when working away, Football grounds, churches and prisons. I was on the road a lot, and if I saw a sign for a ground I would take a detour. Milan, Parma, Scottish clubs, Shamrock Rovers, Valencia etc. I'm far from religous, but if abroad in Italy or Spain, I'd go to church on a Sunday. And if possible, I'd get tickets to see the local game. I've visisted a lot of euro prisons also
They're the 3 tourist things I like when abroad. I've literally been to church service in Ireland, Italy, Spain and France. I love churches. And I'm like a moth to a flame with football stadiums

4. Too many, winning at Wembley anytime, Connor's goal. Goodys at stockport, Meeting Aldo! Seeing my son, having trials at Rovers!
5. FGR, Villa away, felt robbed v Leicester. I think being on the road, then a postponement, such as Peterborough that time, is self explanatory. Dover was particularly frustrating!
6. Johnny Morrissey. A goalscorer needs a provider. And his record from my memory was phenomenal on delivery!
7. It has to be St Yates day. But there are others, where we climbed the lofty heights of beating top clubs. Villa at home, was near perfect save for their late 'goal', that should have been disallowed!
8. Kingy and MM, why pick one?
9. Wembley south, but as a league ground, stadium of light. Non league, Eastleigh was fun.
10. Non really, always interesting who we play in FA cup. Call me old school!

hello hkr I was going to say beating borehamwood just eclipses beating bolton but had to go with my first game because with out that game I wouldn’t have seen the likes of Southampton fa cup beating West Ham 5-2 didn’t go to the Everton game many many more like Anglo Italian should try an bring that back mad games like playing New Zealand

Strange one: Tranmere 3 Grimsby 2. 1988. It proved the doubters wrong, and the club did have ambition.

Welling home. Horrible day after the death of the great man.

Steve Vickers, marked everyone out of the game, from the much hyped Phil stant, Trevor senior in the game HKR mentioned above, sheringham, all the way to Steve bull, who hardly got a kick against him. ( That 3-0 demolition of wolves was another great night btw)

Northampton away, we won 4-0. I don't think they got out of their half, Harvey, bishop, McNab and morrissey just won everything..... Yes I did say morrissey lol

Goes without saying king. However I'm gonna be unpopular and add Worthington and brabin. Both not great tactically, however both made the signings that won us promotions in the following years.

Don't have one anymore, they all look the same. Blackpool and PNE used to be great, dumps, but history and character oozed out of every structure.

Not bothered, probably won't even go this season, far too expensive now. Rather go to rugby league and caldy rugby union now.

Yes, kudos to Loyden, top of the pile..i have been to a fair few grounds in the past but Loyden leaves me in the dust.

Yes, kudos to Loyden, top of the pile..i have been to a fair few grounds in the past but Loyden leaves me in the dust.

i can add a lot of teams that have departed like both scunny grounds hereford workington etc and 3italian ones and the isle of man🤣🤣

Going to quite a few of the National league clubs has upped my number.

Before covid, having only missed a few games at PP, I couldn't even try to count with the ressies, youth and cup games.
However, I am award of quite a few of supporters either never miss or have been to many more games than I have!

It's also difficult to keep up with ground changes. Ground moving and temporary moves!

Biggest hovels.

Gresty Road, Crewe Alex, in the early 80's..made Prenton seem like a palace.
Bloomfield Road, Blackpool, corroded rusty stands everywhere.
Springfield Park, Wigan Ath, their away end on a rainy night, say no more!

Best pies.

Walsall and Port Vale.

Worst pies.

Halifax Town.

Best bogs.

None.

Worst bogs.

Field Mill, Mansfield Town.. soaking wet and that smell i'll never forget!

Best police force.

Don't really know.

Nottinghamshire Constabulary...They were unfriendly and a bit too heavy handed shoving us around in 1981 at The City Ground when we played Forest in 4th round of League Cup..My take on it, coming from Merseyside, was that they had had plenty of experience tackling the Scally hordes of Liverpool and Everton and were incorrectly tarring us with the same brush..Rovers fans caused no problems that night..But fair play to the Forest fans that night chanting, 'Your'e the best team on Merseyside.'

Of the now defunct grounds, the one that i would most liked to have visited.

The Dell, Southampton..a unique ground with lots of character.

Major grounds i have never been to.

Both Sheffield grounds, Elland Road, Sunderland, Chelsea.

Friendly away grounds.

They were pretty ok at the East Anglian grounds at Peterborough and Cambridge.

Away grounds where we seemed to get the most aggro.

Vale Park, Port Vale.
Turf Moor, Burnley.

Best away Matchday programme.

Wrexham often did a good one.

Worst away Matchday programme.

There were quite a few..Rovers Matchday programme in early 80's wasn't up to much.

My opinion on these new style grounds since the Taylor report.

Don't like them, Asda Superstores in a country field with no character..Every ground should have a pub, chippy, bookmakers, newsagents and off-licence all within reasonable walking distance of the ground.

Scummiest fans of all time.

I never went there, but Millwall's Old Den did have a lot of character to it.

Workington Town..i never went there...is their ground still standing?

Boothferry Park - Hull City..they had 6 really tall floodlights..one in each corner and one each along the sides...went there once in 1984 when we got to The Northern Area Final of the Associate Members Cup and about 1,000 Rovers fans stood on that terrace.

Valley Parade - Bradford City.

Yes done that!
But I know a few from my Prenton pup days, that still do travel everywhere! Think it would be easier to count the clubs/grounds we haven't been!
Local grounds that I enjoyed playing on, the likes of Moreton afc. Bromborough pool, Hoylake, West Kirby, Poulton vics under lights ha! And believe it or not played in a youth final on The Tower ground,.

Yes it is. We went to Workington last season for rugby, the footy ground is about 300 metres away. We had the ' why don't they share ' conversation.

Rugby ground is massive due to the disused speedway track, but that pic suggests the footy ground has better facilities

i did some checking up about the history of Workington Town, aswell as Shankly managing them, they also had a couple of other big name managers back in the day..Legendary Newcastle boss Joe Harvey and former Spurs boss Keith Burkinshaw.

That pic of Workington's ground sure gives the impression of a 'forgotten footballing outpost.'

Who remembers the away evening game at Springfield Park in March ‘91? We needed a win to sustain the promotion challenge and eventually scored - think it was Ian Muir. I was briefly working in Yorkshire at that time and got the last train back.

Workington Town were voted out of the league in 1977 to be replaced by Wimbledon. In the 50's they were


managed for a short time by Bill Shankly.

A bit more checking up will confirm that the football club is, and always has been, plain old Workington AFC. 😉 It’s the rugby club that’s called Workington Town.

Like you say, they play just over the road from each other but, incidentally, on the other side of the footy ground used to be a third (smaller) stadium used for greyhound racing, which closed about 20 years ago. (EDIT - just looked it up, it was called the Lonsdale Park stadium. The footy club actually played there in their early days, before they built Borough Park).

Haha hkr remember that, no not me ,, , ,me and my mate got pisd at a party the night bfore the last game of season v palace ,rovers already relegated ,anyway we found a pot of blue paint in the party up by the caenavon and got a taxi to pp 2am.we climbed in ground up on roof and i held my mate by the legs and dangled him over the edge of cow shed ,and he scrawled rovers we still love you 🙈🤣

brilliant loyden , lol,,,that Palace game you mention , i think that was the full professional footy league debut of Kenny Sansom.

Edgar Street, Hereford United...the first ever Rovers away game i went to...remember the old cattle market right next to the ground, wonder if its still there? The Hereford Bull! and the SAS town.

Vale Park, Port Vale..went there 2 or 3 times back in the day..There was always an uneasy atmosphere coming out of the ground at the end of the game, a few Vale idiots hanging around outside and in the car park looking for opposition fans..it was a case of collars up, heads down and get away.

Charlton were the ones who signed the Danish international Allen Simonsen, from Barcelona, when they were below Division 1 level. The wage was so big that after about 10 weeks, they said they could not afford to pay him and he left.

My favourite away ground. Great town to visit. First visited early in 77/78 season. We won 1-0 but had to leave 10 mins before time to catch the last train back to Lime Street.

- Not entirely sure why, but watching Yardley's goal v Coventry in the Cup and seeing it
trickle very, very slowly towards the goal (keeper well out) and just go in.

- Numbing (mind and body) winter game at Borehamwood.

If you count the times I was air-lifted over the turnstile at 6yo then 60 years. However, I remember little of those games other than seeing a lot of legs running around for what is the Johnny King side.
Technically it was regularly from 1970.

In the earlier days, I went to the goal ends at Tranmere were attacking because we weren't restricted to being stuck in any one area. Now, when I can go, it is in the Kop. Due to no longer living in Birkenhead, I generally watch on iFollow when I can.

I've never played for Tranmere To be honest , I cannot remember

4. Best moment watching Tranmere?
That Wembley moment over two days at that Centenary.

5. Worst moment watching Tranmere?
The Leicester game. If Clint Hill hadn't been sent off....

3. First game was actually away against New Brighton 1949 that. All I remember was that
it was Christmas Eve and I wanted to get home to hang up my stocking!
4. Best moment was Aldo's first goal at Brighton. I travelled to the game convinced that we would only have one season, but with that goal suddenly believed we could be a force. The next best was the final whistle in the Borehamwood final. Relief rather than exhilaration.
5. Worst Moment was when Swindon scored the second goal within 5 minutes of the start of the first play off leg. I was sure that was to be our year
6.Over 73 seasons impossible to go for one player. As a kid loved Cyril Done as prolific a scorer as Aldo but I also liked Abe Rosenthal because being short and fat he looked out of place but quite brilliant. Liked Dyson for his energy and Steve Vickers for his sheer consistency
7. Best game . The 5-2 defeat of West Ham and beating Wrexham at home to secure a place in the third tier following the end of Div 3 North and South
8. King but in a different context Bryan Hamilton was just as good.
9. Exeter City because it was only a 50 mile round trip to get to the game. But also a special mention for Goodison both for our St Yates win, but also seeing us score 5 in a third replay against Bltyh Spartans with a crowd of about 26,000
10. Wrexham because it recalls old 3N rivalry and a time when attendance was often above 12000 and up to 19,000

Devon, so do you remember seeing the streaker who was escorted off the pitch. He was standing behind me with his girlfriend, apparently his birthday, snd ever so slightly inebriated. A policemen’s placed a helmet over his private parts whilst walking him off.

5. Worst moment watching Tranmere? When Dalian Atkinson scored for Villa in the home leg of the semis I knew it was going to bite us on the @#$%&.

6. Who has been your favourite Tranmere player and why? Johnny Morrisey is closely followed by Ian Muir. Morrisey just danced passed players and made you get up off your seat which is what every winger should be able to do. Muir quality in and around the box and a top fella to boot.

7. Best game you have seen Rovers play? 3-0 against Bolton in the Worthington cup semi.

9. Favourite away ground? Quite liked Leicester but we did get snotted the season when we went in league one cant remember what season

But time supporting a team is only one measure. Many will have been to more games than me. When I lived on Merseyside I went to pretty well all home games and a considerable number of away games but nine years living abroad and then being an exile,means many will have clocked up more games.
For me passion and enthusiasm is the thing that links all supporters. For some that passion can be manifested in concern and even complaint, others gravitate to the constantly positive. If time supporting Rovers has taught me anything it is that either response can be justified given the roller coaster nature of the fortunes of clubs like Tranmere

Amazing to think of New Brighton as a League team. My earliest teams (Accrington and Workington) also went. Yes, that match at Brighton was special. I wasn't sure before, but seeing Aldridge's fitness and attitude told me we were really going places. We already had Morrisssey and Muir. My favourite mental picture of Rovers is Morrissey and Nevin coming down the wings with Aldridge or Muir in the middle. Worth bearing in mind that only two of those four really cost money. It's possible to have good attacking players in the lower leagues.
