Joining us soon?

It seems we are not going down, and not going up. As season tickets get renewed it's time to look at who will be with us in League 2 next season, albeit nothing is decided just yet.

It looks like Carlisle, Fleetwood and Port Vale will be making the drop from League 1, three away days  that are all doable, albeit Carlisle can take 3 hours up the M6. Fleetwood and Vale Park take about the same time as each other to reach. The final berth looks like being between Cheltenham and Shrewsbury, I suspect it will be Cheltenham. All of those teams are clubs we have played before, all seem to be a similar size to us. So it looks like there is no immediate big budget team dropping into our division.

Entering from the other end, it looks like it will be Chesterfield, but beyond that it's a lottery given the complexity of the National League play-off system. Barnet, Oldham and Aldershot are all ex-League clubs. Bromley, Solihull Moors and Gateshead have not, at least in recent times, been League teams. None of those clubs will be bringing a massive wedge of cash with them, and none have particularly large support. However, Chesterfield seem like a club who could go places. It's the ground I will most look forward to visiting. If it's Oldham you can only hope that the fixture computer is kind and gives us an away game in August before the freeze sets in.

In all probability we are likely to see Mansfield, Stockport and Wrexham or Crewe go up automatically, I'd put my money on Crewe to pip Wrexham at the post. Despite the fact that I loathe them, I reckon The Franchise could be the team that emerges victorious from the bun fight. Most likely that would be at Crewe's expense.

That would mean that our Division next season would be relatively open. There would be no club with hugely greater resources than any other and, by my reckoning it would leave us with localish games against Crewe, Barrow, Morecambe, Accrington, Salford, Port Vale and Fleetwood (and possibly Shrewsbury). That probably also means that there will be quite a few games where the away support will add to the atmosphere at Prenton Park and, given the potential openness of competition, promotion and relegation will be wide open.

It remains to be seen if the club can capitalise on the opportunity that's there. We will need a better squad and a summer clear out. We will also need investment. However, the 2024-25 season looks like offering us our best chance of promotion in a long while.

Hoping Cheltenham stay up, excellent manager that is doing a fine job in trying to keep them up, considering that when he took over in October they were rock bottom of league 1 and they hadn't even scored a league goal...i think Cheltenham will survive.

Would luv Wrexham to miss out on the automatics and then blow it in the play offs..

Micky's Oldham winning at Wembley in NL play off final is something i would like to see.

Wrexham and Stockport would surely regroup and go again. Rather see the back of them, in our own interests

in the NL, Chesterfield already up. who will be coming up in the play offs? see the 2nd and 3rd placed teams Barnet and Bromley played each other last night in a 1-1 draw...doesn't look like Mickys Oldham will be doing it, but they could be one to look out for next season..Altrincham going well in the play off places, as are Gateshead, Gateshead have games in hand,,See the Gateshead v Aldershot game was postponed 15 mins before kick off last night, much to the annoyance of the Aldershot fans who had travelled 300 miles to get there..i know you cannot predict the weather, but that is simply not on to call a game off so close to kick off with fans travelling hundreds of miles to get there..Aldershot are in with a shout of the play offs too.

i thought Gateshead would really fall when manager Mike Williamson left them back in October to join MK Dons, but fair play to them they are doing very well with their interim manager, they will deffo be in with a shout to win the NL play offs. plus the fact Gateshead are thru to the FA Trophy Final aswell...should make this caretaker guy permanent i reckon..

Cannot see Wrexham messing it up now and I think they will be in the top three. I am with HKR in hoping Cheltenham stay up but the last couple of results have not gone well. I think that MK Dons will be the most likely to come through the play offs lottery.
I would really like to see Altrincham come up for it was give us a derby to replace one of the lost two.
Next season there should be no club with a massive financial advantage over others (ignoring Salford and Notts C), which will make it a more competitive division

NL season finished today with lunchtime kick offs..

Halifax claim the last play off place..

Boreham Wood relegated...Luke Garrard's final game.

Be interested to see how Altrincham do in the NL playoffs.

Altrincham will play Halifax in play offs
Gateshead will play Solihull Moors in play offs

Then the 2 winners from them will meet Barnet and Bromley.

NB. Interesting to note Gateshead and Solihull Moors will also meet in the FA Trophy final aswell.

Gateshead have been forced to drop out of the play offs in NL..after being denied possible entry to the EFL..all to do with the security of tenure arttheir stadium..effectively they have failed to meet the entry criteria for membership to EFL..

You would have thought they would have sorted something like that out..

They were scheduled to meet Solihull Moors in the play offs this midweek..

I dunno what will happen now, will they get another club in the play offs to replace them?

Solihull Moors have been given a bye to semi final stage of the playoffs

Seems harsh. I mean, presumably there are clubs promoted who could end up ground sharing, etc. ?

One curious aspect of the new season, there won’t be a team we have had more than 100 League matches against, unless Halifax get promoted (104 games).

Our most encountered teams will be Chesterfield (94) and Bradford City (88).

Changed to Alty. I really hope they get the 2nd promotion spot. With Wrexham and Stockport gone they would give us a derby game (& my Uncle Alf played for them in the old Cheshire League!). They were never a pushover when we played them in the National League

Crewe are our oldest foe? 122 and we are winning

Alty were the ones who could not get elected when they were head and shoulders best, also better than some league teams under another John King. When promotion came in they had fallen away a tad. Would be justice, doubt many survive to enjoy it though.
