Tonight Rovers are back in action away at Cheltenham. Last weekend there was a break due to international fixtures, just at the point when Rover’s were putting together some improved football. The same was true when our match against Wimbledon was cancelled for the same reasons. Let’s hope that lightening doesn’t strike in the same place again.
I was wrong about us not progressing in the EFL Trophy, we have. More important than progressing was the style of the performance. Crisp passing, patient build ups and good finishing. Too much shouldn’t be read into one match, but it felt like the team had suddenly started playing much better, a step change. The previous game against Newport had seen us struggle. Yes we won, but the nature of the victory and performance left a great deal to be desired. However, we were playing a second string Stockport XI. Reading too much into two different performances should, as I said, be resisted.
I am hoping that Nigel Adkins sticks to a team that resembles the starting line-up from the Trophy match. It was a soufflé compared to the stodgy soggy pie we witnessed against Newport. My suspicion is that we will see a return to the latter not the former. If that happens I for one will be very disappointed, even more so if we don’t come away with a result.
It could be that we have reached a turning point. We all want Nigel Adkins to succeed and do well. Let’s hope the Stockport game gave him more than food for thought and that we are celebrating a good away win at the end of the game.
Back after the break

Zint Nigel has gone back to stodgyness. π€¦ββοΈ
He certainly has. No Hawkes, Dennis, Drysdale, and Taylor doesnt even make the bench.
Back to the same formula which makes us the lowest scorers in the entire 4 divisions....

Need to make changes right now as Cheltenham have taken control and Norris is now booked
Norris, Morris, Patrick off and Hawkes, Dennis, Saunders on???

After a win and a draw we were in danger of the wheels falling off and spiralling into a decent run of form. Despite a very stagnant team selection with a right back in midfield and a nice lack if pace up front, Cheltenham really threatened for a while their not to score a goal. In addition gave us a chance of 3 points, despite us rejecting the chance to net a couple of goals and even replacing Omari Patrick early on Cheltenham left it really late to bag that goal but at least we can breathe a sigh of relief that it looks like the wheels are back on the rails with a punchy 1-0 defeat!
A Truly awful game to watch and we were ABSOLUTE F*CKING DOG W*NK all night long...Got what we deserved PERIOD...!...Hoping Luke Norris will be first out of the door come the Summer, with many more to follow very soon after.
pathetic utter awful ,oconner dreadful no challenge for goal .kieran morris what does he offer , the rest poor , clear out needed , starting at the top , swa swa
So fed up with him going back to the same uninspiring setup just hoping for a 0-0 draw then leaving it too late to bring the subs on ! Another poor team we should have attacked & gone for win?
I agree about the lack of quality but that is down to decisions made about retention and another round of mainly poor summer signings. If NA had nothing to do with any of those decisions then just what is his role.
Taylor and Solomon are raw but at least they offer the hope that with game time /experience they will improve. The other up front options offer only consistent inadequacy. What a mess
hong kong rover Bloody dreadful goal to concede, we should NEVER have allowed him to get his shot away.
In the end it was a predictable defeat to a predictable late goal against bang average opposition. They just stepped it up a bit and got what they needed. It was a case of the usual suspects really for us. Decent from Davies, Jennings, Findlay but Morris, Norris, Wood, O'Connor sorry just not good enough to be effective even at this level. How Keiran Morris gets 82 minutes tonight is beyond me. This squad of players is so limited it's untrue. Lets hope we can just gather enough points to beat the drop because that's where we are at the moment.
the whole 90 mins was awful dave,,,Omari looked a little bit lively in the opening 10 or 15 mins and that was all we got for the entire match...dreadful game, 2 dreadful teams, dreadful goal to concede and a dreadful result.

He did well initially, but throughout 2024 our form has been mediocre. with 44 points from the last 36 games , although it does feel as though we are going backwards.
There is a possible argument that Apter was more of a factor than than the manager in us pulling away from relegation last year
