Questions and Answers in the middle of a crises

We gathered around our phones, laptops and whatever else to be updated by Mark and Nicola Palios about the current state of affairs at the club. Beforehand it would be fair to say there was a high degree of cynicism about the value of the Q&A, afterwards some felt that such cynicism was far from misplaced.

Normally I would explore the positives and negatives and whilst there were some positive message, such as the fact that the club is not in danger of going into Administration there was a huge amount of vagueness. There was no indication given regarding the money available in the January transfer window. However, it was stated the one reason for bringing Andy Crosby in was so that he could make an objective assessment around the current squad. I’m no expert on this kind of thing but our League position might hint that the squad isn’t good enough. Maybe Andy will come to a different conclusion?

There were pleas that the players were working hard and trying to make themselves better. Mark Palios suggested that all teams get into these spirals from time to time and he doesn’t think we are going to be relegated. If we are though ‘Wrexham came back’. Mark, after 10 years.

The takeover process is still ongoing. We were told that something concrete would happen by the end of the first quarter next year. Now this may sound positive but I am left wondering, does this mean the end of the quarter ending in March, or the end of the first quarter in the new financial year starting in April? Either way the cash injection we hoped for ahead of January doesn’t seem to be likely.

They also discussed the fan park where Mark indicated that he had lost patience with the Trust and that the Trust do not have the funds to complete the project. The relationship with the Trust was described as ‘fractured’. This seems a deeply concerning situation that is not going to improve in the short term.

After 40 minutes I started feeling like I do when I am watching the team at the moment. I had lost the will to be engaged and felt that nothing specific was being addressed other than ‘we want this period to be over soon’. It all felt quite sad.

The questions and comments coming in from supporters were a mixture of agitated concern, gallows humour and a smattering of appreciation for the work Mark and Nicola had done. Another Q&A will take place at the end of the next quarter. We will certainly have a clearer idea about our likely League status by then. The rest, well we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and stay positive.

Wrexham were out of the football league for 15 years not 10 and only returned after very significant investment in the team - funds that no other National League team had and funds that ( unless the new tranmere owners somehow have resources similar to wrexhams current owners ) Tranmere will not have

As for investing being a “vanity project” the attendances are approaching 4 times the pre “Hollywood” takeover days and would be more if the stadium was bigger and championship football is now a real possibility and who knows how much further things can go

If we drop again to the NL it could be a very long and winding road back and marks response to the possibility was very surprising to me - appreciate there is still a long way to go - 84 points to play for etc

As regards the fan park I think I heard mark say what has been built so far does not conform to building regulations ( shocking ) never mind finding the money to finish the project

The club is a joke, it always has been even prior to MP being in place, its always been unprofessional and run like a Sunday league Club. MP has tried to professionalise it, problem is he has looked in all the wrong places from a football perspective. And it was clear last night this has never been about the club and always about a profit from sell on. Some of the "investment" numbers were eye-watering and return nonpositive on field results.

3.5 million on Solar Campus which we don't even own, Out best period in history was when trained at Valley Road out of a porta-cabin on the worst pitches in the UK always flooded.

1 million on a pitch! Again anyone remember Morrisey dribbling round that Kop Mainstand corner

This has never been about football !

Things could be worse - Tranmere could have the financial backing of Man City and still have a set of results as bad as theirs in the last 10 games.

Can someone help me out here?
During last nights broadcast from North Korea it was mentioned that the loan from Smurthwaite has been secured against the ground. Now, if that’s the case, doesn’t that mean that we have effectively mortgaged the ground to Mr Smurthwaite?

I’m not sure how much more transparency the owners could have given without breaching confidentiality agreements. So I disagree with the OP about vagueness.

Yep..Well a percentage of it ..
For simplicity if the ground is valued at £5M and Smuthwaite has lent the club £500k that is 10% of the ground value .
A 10% LV. Ratio..
No different from a mortgage on your home ..
