League One Reviews - Plenty Going On

Weekly look at League One in general, and as the transfer window still goes on, still do the transfers themselves. With the likes of loan signings, free transfers and even paid transfers finding their way to nearly every club, except Rovers.

League 1 Review – Part Two

Leaders Luton were held to a 0-0 draw away at Colchester whilst second placed Hull City slipped to a defeat away at Doncaster. This allowed Tranmere to close the gap on the pair after they won at home to Walsall and Sheffield Wednesday won 1-0 at home to Port Vale on Friday to keep up the pressure.

Wednesday, who last week saw on loan striker Kenwyne Jones return to Southampton, saw a further departure from Hillsborough this week. Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu had his contract at Wednesday terminated by mutual consent at the beginning of last week and within days had signed for Wednesday’s League One rivals Colchester United on a month long contract.

Another former Wednesday player, midfielder Craig Armstrong joined their Yorkshire neighbours Bradford City this week in a deal until the summer but with an option of a further 12 months. The former Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest player had failed to play in a first team game for Wednesday since last February.

Brentford were boosted this week by the news that defender Sam Sodje has signed an extension to his contract at the club. Doncaster meanwhile are giving a trial to Icelandic international Gretar Hjartarson who had played for KR Reykjavik in Iceland and MK Dons have signed Cameroon international Michel Pensee-Bilong. The 31 year old defender has initially joined the Dons until the end of the season but has an option to extend the deal. Danny Wilson’s third signing since he took over can play at either right-back or centre-back.

Stockport County have made one loan signing this week but look set to lose another. Millwall defender Joe Dolan joins County for a month whilst midfielder Darrell Clarke who is on loan at Edgeley Park from Hartlepool looks set to return there after playing just one game for County. Clarke picked up a knee injury on his debut against Luton and is unlikely to recover before his loan spell is due to end.

Finally this week, former Leeds and Barnsley chairman Peter Ridsdale has said he is unlikely to pursue a take-over deal at crisis club Wrexham but has admitted to having talks with the troubled club.
