Four-Four-Two Magazine’s Best and Worst Players

Four-Four Two Magazine has published in its latest edition, the results of a poll to find the best and worst players in the history of every club in the English League and Scottish Premiership. The results threw up a few surprises with a number of Tranmere’s past players voted in at other clubs.

Firstly comes the best and worst players ever to play for Tranmere Rovers themselves, with neither category producing much of a surprise:

 

Tranmere’s Best – Ian Muir

 

Who else but Rover’s record goalscorer who scored 180 goals for the club during his ten year spell.  Muir was also recently voted into Total Tranmere’s Rovers Dream Team alongside John Aldridge upfront.

 

Tranmere’s Worst – Kevin Gray

 

“Tranmere’s worst ever player was signed by their worst ever manager” quotes the magazine as Gray gets the vote as the worst ever player to pull on a Rovers shirt.  There who many fans who would agree with this sentiment.  Gray was signed by Dave Watson shortly after he took over at Prenton Park in 2001 and was immediately given the captain’s armband despite being too injured to play for most of the time.

 

Other Tranmere Players Featured for Other Clubs

 

Oxford United’s Best – John Aldridge

 

Aldridge is not only a legend at Tranmere Rovers.  He is in fact a legend of sorts at most of the clubs he played for including Liverpool and Oxford United for whom he has been voted the best ever player.

 

Liverpool’s Worst – Phil Babb

 

Despite only being a loanee at Rovers in 2000, he could in fairness have challenged Kevin Gray for the position as Rovers worst player.  Played a part in Rovers run to Wembley in 2000 however, but missed out on the final itself after his loan period ended.

 

Stockport’s Worst – Ian Moore

 

The son of former Rovers player and assistant manager Ronnie Moore, seems something of a surprise to be voted a clubs worst player especially as he was reasonably successful at Tranmere and has been since he left.  The reason for his victory in this particular vote is more related the way in which he left Edgeley Park for Burnley under something of a cloud.

 

Livingston’s Worst – Eugene Dadi

 

Perhaps another bizarre choice in the eyes of Rovers fans as his first season at Tranmere produced 19 goals but it is clear that he was not so popular at Livingston.
