He's Rumoured To Arrive At PP, But How Good Is He?

There have been numerous rumours about Luke Beckett arriving at Tranmere, but instead of looking to see if its true, we look to see if hes really any good? We bring to you all his playing career statistics and whether he has the knack of being a poacher, something the Rovers are looking out for.
It seems that there finally will be a striker coming to the doors of Prenton Park. And yes it is a striker who will certainly ruffle up some feathers, if you mind the cliché. And yes the striker is certainly proven at the level of football Tranmere find themsleves.
This striker is the very talented, Luke Beckett. Luke would definitely “do the business” at Tranmere and could start a promising partnership with the likes of Iain Hume and Chris Dagnall, as I feel the perfect partnership is always, braw and brain.
Luke currently finds himself very low down of the pecking order, at his hometown club, Sheffield United. He has already had a lot of clubs expressing interest in him, but Tranmere seem to have came up with the best offer, as lots of rumours have appeared recently, claiming he has signed.
The 5 foot 11 striker, although not exactly your average Calvin Zola, still packs a punch and is very strong on the ball. Also at 28, it is seen as being at your peek by many pundits and professionals alike.
His career spans 14 years, but the first 7 of those he didnt make a signle appearance for his first club, Barnsley. It wasn't till after this move to Chester, did his career not kick start into gear. This fine form earned himself a move to Chesterfield and later Stockport, were he had his healthiest scoring record, scoring 47 goals in an amazing 91 appearances.
This goalscoring form was keenly watched by Championship clubs, and he was snapped up by Sheffield United for £50,000 on 15th November 2004. But since his move to Sheffield he has only started once, not being able to find the net at all. This prompted him to be shipped out on loan, first at Huddersfield, which shown how class he is at this kind of level. In his seven appearances he notched up 6 vital goals for Huddersfield. After the loan spell expired he found himself again out on loan, but this time to Oldham, where he scored another 6 goals in 9 appearances, impressing the maanger greatly. Oldham made it clear they wanted Beckett permanently, but it seems Luke has decided against the move.
Now he finds himself unwanted by the Blades, but admired by plenty of League One clubs. But the lure of promotion must attract such an ambitious lad like Luke.
