A few weeks ago, we at Total Tranmere asked you who you felt was the most deserving of the Captains’ Armband for next season in the form of our latest poll and after 116 votes have been cast there is a clear winner. The result may come as a surprise to some who didn’t vote for this person.

With 39% of the overall vote, the player who the majority of you thought was most deserving of the Captains’ Armband was the current holder of the honour Jason McAteer. Jason was run close by defender Mike Jackson who has been the Rovers captain in the absence of McAteer last season but the full poll results were as follows:
Another player who polled a number of votes was Mark Rankine who many people voted as their player of the season after his fantastic midfield performances last season. The news last week that he has signed a new contract for the forthcoming season is a massive boost to fans and players alike. So Jason was your man in this poll and perhaps his public show of emotion at being substituted in the second leg of the Play-Off semi-final against Hartlepool gained him some votes as his ‘love’ for the club and for the game was truly revealed. Whatever the reasons, the majority of Total Tranmere readers believe that McAteer is the player most deserving of the captains armband.
