Rovers Sign Striker Greenacre

Tranmere have moved swiftly to soften the blow of Ryan Taylor’s departure by signing a striker in the shape of Chris Greenacre. For the whole summer and even before that, Rovers fans have longed for a striker to sign to boost Rovers’ attacking options and they have got their wish.

Recent speculation had linked Greenacre with a move to Prenton Park but like all summer rumours, it was generally dismissed as more of a suggestion than a likely scenario.  The 27-year old was released by Stoke City at the end of last season after a frustrating spell which saw injuries affect the number of games he played.

 

His form at Mansfield Town, before he moved to Stoke was a lot more prolific however, scoring 58 goals in 132 appearances for the Stags.  Speaking to the Official Website, Manager Brian Little said “I’m delighted to be able to sign Chris, whom I have been tracking for a long time.  He has been my number one target.  He is a proven goalscorer with the ability to be in the right place at the right time.  He has a great attitude towards the game and Tranmere was always his number one choice.”

 

It is expected that Greenacre will make his debut at the home friendly against Manchester City on Friday Evening.
