Chesterfield, or the team known to Rovers fans as The Ex-Tranmere XI, travel to Prenton Park on Saturday in the hope of avenging a 2-0 defeat inflicted by Rovers earlier in the season.
Since Rovers 2-0 win at Saltergate back in late August thanks to goals from Mike Jackson and a scorching free-kick from Gareth Roberts, the sides have gone in opposite directions in the League One table with Chesterfield becoming the team on the verge of the play-offs, whilst Tranmere fight to pull away from the relegation zone in an awfully tight division.
Chesterfield have been inspired this season by Paul Hall who last season of course was one of Tranmere’s star men as the White’s finished in 3rd place in League One. Paul Hall is joined at Saltergate by three more former Rovers players in the shape of Wayne Allison, Shane Nicholson and Reuben Hazell.
Tranmere ended a two game losing run with a 2-1 win away at Swindon Town on Tuesday night that moved them six points clear of the final relegation place. Rovers defeat in their last home match against high-flying Barnsley, was their only defeat in the last six games at Prenton Park.
The visitors currently sit in eighth place but are now eight points off the final play-off place. Chesterfield have a reasonable away record in recent games with just one defeat in the last six away trips. In fact the Spireites have only lost five games away from home this season compared with seven wins and six draws in the other games.
In the meetings between the two sides last season, Tranmere triumphed 1-0 in the first week of the season thanks to a Eugene Dadi goal just before half-time. In the return game at Saltergate, Tranmere twice went ahead but despite a Eugene Dadi goal with just four minutes left that put Rovers 2-1 up, the home side were not to be denied as Logan struck in the last minute to earn Chesterfield a 2-2 draw.

Tranmere Rovers: Rovers only absentee is goalkeeper John Achterberg (groin) who remains unable to play despite several operations in recent weeks.
Chesterfield: The Spireites are without three of their four former Rovers players for the visit to Prenton Park with Wayne Allison (hamstring), Shane Nicholson (knee) and Reuben Hazell (broken foot) all out. The trio are joined on the injury list by Barry Roche (thigh).
