Little Axe Rumour Makes National Press
Some Tranmere fans have been hoping for it for a while and last week it was rumoured on the Total Tranmere Forum that it would happen quite soon but today of the UK’s National Newspapers has reported that Rovers Manager Brian Little could be axed in the next 48 hours with Jason McAteer being drafted in as a temporary replacement as Rovers look to see off the threat of relegation to League Two in their final two matches.
It is not known of course where the Mirror have got their information from and it may as a result of constant pressure on Little on Total Tranmere and most other Tranmere Forums over the past few months but it was reported on Total Tranmere last week that McAteer could possibly move into a management role sooner rather than later.
If the reports end up coming true, it will make little sense at this stage to sack Little. The argument one way is that sacking him now might keep Rovers up but if he was to go now, the process of appointing a new Manager would have to take place and the by the time the new man is in charge, the summer dealings and contract renewals will be well under way and may leave Rovers at a disadvantage.
At the fans forum last week, Chairman Lorraine Rogers and Brian Little both confirmed that they hope to have Tranmere’s squad for next season in place as early as possible in the summer but the chances of this being achieved would be jeopardised by a change of Manager at this stage.
We’ll keep you posted with any further news as and when we get it!
