After just over two and half years in charge at Prenton Park, Manager Brian Little today left the Club by mutual consent following a poor season in which Rovers just avoided relegation to League Two with one game to spare. Jason McAteer and John McMahon will be in charge for tomorrows home game.

So it’s finally happened.  After weeks of grumbling but no clear protests from sections of the Rovers faithful who wanted Brian Little out, today they finally got their wish as the Club announced that Little has left by mutual consent with just one game of the season remaining.

After steering Rovers away from the relegation zone in his first season in charge to a respectable mid-table finish, Little guided Rovers to the verge of promotion last season before an agonising two-legged play-of defeat to Hartlepool after Rovers had missed out on automatic promotion by finishing third.

This season, following the loss of key players such as Iain Hume and Ryan Taylor to a higher level, the team failed to gel and Rovers found themselves locked in a relegation battle that ended last week when Rovers won at MK Dons to remain in League One.

Throughout the season, Rovers fans berated Little, but some of them have short memories and others still feel that Little deserved a chance to re-group the squad over this summer and go for promotion again next season.

The timing of the news is lousy as Rovers now have to go through the process of appointing a new manager before any summer transfer dealings can begin and any work that Brian Little had done towards new signings may not now be necessary after all as the new manager will no doubt have ideas of his own for new players.

Brian’s assistants John McMahon and Jason McAteer will be in charge of the side for the visit of Doncaster to Prenton Park tomorrow.

Total Tranmere would like to wish Brian Little all the best for the future!
