Greenacre Wins Player of Season Award

Chris Greenacre picks up the Player of the Season Award whilst Carl Tremarco and Gareth Roberts scooped the other two awards that were on offer in a ceremony that took place prior to the final game of the season at home to Doncaster Rovers.

 

Following the announcement last week that this Thursday's Player of the Season Dinner had been cancelled due to the potential importance of Saturday’s home game against Doncaster, the awarding of the prizes to the winners of the three awards instead took place on the pitch prior to the match itself after Rovers had secured League One safety with a week to spare.

 

In the end there were no real shocks in terms of the winners of the awards:

 

Player of the Season – Chris Greenacre

 

Eighteen goals in his first season at the Club in what has without doubt been a pretty poor team, saw Chris Greenacre deservedly take the Player of the Season award as voted for by Rovers fans.

 

Young Player of the Season – Carl Tremarco

 

Despite not having played on a wholly regular basis for Rovers this season, Carl Tremarco scooped the Young Player of the Season award for some impressive performances in the first team, particularly on the left side of midfield but also at left-back.

 

Goal of the Season – Gareth Roberts Vs Chesterfield (Away)

 

Fitting that on the day he probably played his last game for Tranmere after an eight year spell at Prenton Park, that Gareth Roberts left with an award for the best goal of the season for his stunning 30 yard free-kick away at Chesterfield back in August.
