Martin Broughton expects the sale of Liverpool Football Club to be concluded in a week. The buyers, NESV, are also the owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The delay is down to Hicks and Gilletts’ legal challenge.
"It's likely to take about a week. I would hope we will get the judgment by the end of next week."
"It is a difficult issue. Part of me taking on the role - and I was appointed by Tom and George - was that they gave a written undertaking that only I could change the board, they wrote that into the articles of the two companies Kop Football and Kop Holdings.
"They also gave a written undertaking to RBS that they would not frustrate any reasonable sale and this is frankly a flagrant abuse of those two written undertakings."
Of the new owners he said:
"I think they want to be judged by what they do rather than what they say. If you look at the Boston Red Sox as a massive example of taking a major, historic team which had seen better days and restored them to glory, it is a parallel which demonstrates action.

I'm not asking for Saudi billions to pay a team of mercenaries I just want a competitive, stylish, entertaining side that can restore some pride not just to the fans but to everyone connected with the club in any respect.
I very much doubted the capability of the Liverpool board to get the job done but I think Hick's and Gillette's desperate attempts to wring every last shilling out of LFC has personally offended Purslow et al and now it's more than business, it's personal and that's only a good thing for LFC.
At the end of a storm...........
Kenny, Pellegrini, Gus, there is no end of possibilities.
MON will never be accepted by Liverpool fans, it's as personal now as it always has been.
