Benitez and everyone else involved in Liverpool FC will tell you that losing Xabi Alonso for six weeks is a huge blow to Liverpool's chances of a top four finish.

In an unlucky and disappointing game against league leaders Chelsea on New Years day Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso has broken his ankle which adds to Liverpool's problems.

Benitez said:"Unfortunately we have lost Xabi for five to six weeks and it is a big blow for us."

When asked if this injury to Alonso will mean looking for a replacement in January Benitez kept things close to himself. He said that we have a big squad and are capable of putting someone else in the team.

This injury to Alonso only adds to Liverpool's list of unfortunite blows. At this moment in time Kewell, Josemi, Kirkland and Cisse are all suffering injuries. Baros also is injured but should be back for next weeks encounter with Norwich.
