Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier says it's only a matter of time before Steven Gerrard is regarded as the best midfielder in world football.
Houllier believes Gerrard is already as good as anyone in the Premiership, but that over the next couple of years he will emerge as the number one in the game.
"I already think he is the most complete midfield player in the Premiership and in the next two years we will see him develop into the best midfield player in the world," he said.
"He has everything. He can use both feet, he's good in the air and possesses the kind of vision that only the very best players have."
"One thing I feel certain about is that it will one day be impossible to ignore him for the European Footballer of the Year award."
"He is already the equal of Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane at their best. But Stevie has something different - he can score lots of goals."
"He is a hungry player. He wants to win the best trophies, like the Premiership and Champions League, and he wants to match himself against the very best."
"But people should not underestimate the depth of feeling he has for Liverpool. He loves the club and the fans and I know there's nothing he'd rather do than lift the Premiership and Champions League as Liverpool captain."
