Is The Morgan Bid Right For Liverpool FC?

While all seems quiet on the investment front, it appears that Steve Morgan’s bid is still in the frame. Would this be good for our club? Would he be the dignified type of chairman we’ve always had?

Or would he be the Freddie Shepherd type, making himself CEO and taking as much out of the club as he could in wages and share dividends.

Let’s look at what we perceive in Steve Morgan. Most of what we know about his views on the club doesn’t sit comfortably with the majority of Liverpool supporters. For a start he wants full control of the club but isn’t prepared to pay the going price for the shares he’s after, undervaluing the club by almost half. He doesn’t want a new stadium, preferring the redevelopment of Anfield, which we’d all love, but the costs would be so high a new state of the art stadium makes more sense. Also, remember the two old ladies who, well within their rights, rejected all offers from LFC to move. Because of that it took us ten years to replace the Kemlyn Road stand with the Centenary Stand. Could we afford such a wait again?
I personally think that if we must move the present plans which link the old Anfield to the new are very enticing. The present Anfield will become a memorial garden ‘Anfield Plaza’ opening out on to the new ground. Of course there will be a commercial element as well but this can only enhance the area and add to LFC’s spending power. Steve Morgan believes in groundshare and that would be one of the only reasons he would look at a new stadium. Nuff said?
Steve Morgan would also like to float the club on the stock exchange making it more of a business than a football club.

He isn’t my idea of a chairman for Liverpool football club but if he’s yours tell us why on the message boards.

The case for keeping the present chairman David Moores is a strong one in my view. He’s been the nearly perfect chairman (being too loyal being his one fault). A true red all of his life, keeps a low profile but when he does speak always makes sense. A chairman who is willing to take the blame for the clubs failure as heard when there were calls for Gerard Houllier to be replaced, Moores told the AGM, the buck stops with him and it would be he who steps down if we didn’t get 4th spot Champions League. You could say that not winning the Premiership during his tenure is failure but I wouldn't agree. David Moores has followed in the tradition of all former Liverpool chairmen by appointing men who can do the job and leaving them to get on with it, not for him the hands on approach of actually buying players himself. We’ve never had to worry that he’s interfering in team affairs, he takes nothing out of the club in the way of wages or share dividend, and appointed imo the best CEO around in Rick Parry. He’s also appointed the best manager to walk in to Anfield since King Kenny resigned. Rafael Benitez was the best possible choice for the future of Liverpool Football Club.

So for me the ideal situation would be for investment in the shape of the Thai deal (but not the Thais because of the way the regime intended to raise the finance, among other things) which would have left the present chairman and CEO in place but given Rafa money to spend. Your views?
