Pellegrino not at his best yet

Maricio Pellegriono, who was an integral part of Valencia’s La Liga title winning team, is not yet thinking about an extension to his six month contract.

. Instead he wishes to concentrate on getting his form up to Pellegrino standard and seeing Liverpool gain fourth place. The Argentinian played excellently against Everton on Sunday and he says he is becoming happier with his form, although there is still room for improvement.

He says:

"I'm not yet at the real Pellegrino level," he said. "I know what my best is, and it's not here yet. Yes, I've been happier with how I've played in the last three games, but I need to still improve.

"I feel I still need to know a lot more about my opponents and my team-mates. You never stop learning, no matter how long you've been in the game. You can improve every time you play."

Pellegrino's six month deal expires at the end of the season but he says now isn't the right time to start discussing a possible extension to his contract.

He said: "I'm not thinking about what will happen with me ahead of next season. All that's important is Liverpool win, catch Everton and finish in the top four.

"We're all very happy to have performed so well in such an important and difficult match. This should give us confidence for the rest of the Premiership.

"It was a typical English game but we defended well when we had to. Everton used a lot of long balls and it was difficult having to defend so many second balls.

"The injury situation made it hard for us too. Luis Garcia played the second half but could hardly walk. I've never known a situation where a side suffered three injuries before half-time."
