Hyppia believes experience the key to fourth place

Sami Hypia believes that Liverpool’s experience at fighting for a Champions League spot will help them to gain the fourth place from Everton by the end of the season.

He believes Liverpool are better equipped mentally for the pressure that is building up in the battle to claim a CL place.

He told LFC Magazine,

"Our experience can help us, but if you are not doing things as a team then experience counts for nothing. It is about pulling together as a team at this stage.

"Yes, we've been here before and know what it takes to get there. I'm quite confident that we'll do it but then Everton have had a great season so far but we are much closer to them now and we will see where we are come May 15.

"I am a bit surprised by Everton's success this season, as I think most people are. But they seem to have a good bunch of players and they are pulling together.

"We can't worry about what they do though. It is crucial for us to remain focused for the final run-in to the season.

"We have usually had a decent finish while I've been here and hopefully this year won't be any different.

"Every game is important between now and the end of the season. We must try and get three points from every one of them. If we don't, then we don't, but it is one thing to focus and another to gain confidence, which comes with winning games."

If Liverpool are to clinch fourth place then Hyypia accepts the consistency of the side must improve over the remaining games.

He added: "We need to work hard to get the consistency right and then I am sure we will be closer to the top of the table.

"I don't know where the inconsistency comes from but I think games such as in Leverkusen where we were very aggressive shows that we can control a game.”
