Xabi Alonso is glad to be back from injury

Xabi Alonso says he was touched by the reception he received from the Liverpool fans as he warmed up on the touchline on Tuesday night.

He also said the goodwill messages he’s received from fans have helped him get over the three months he’s been out with injury.

He told liverpoolfc.tv

"It was great for me to be back and on the bench against Juventus at Anfield. I would have loved to have been involved on the pitch but the fans gave me a great reception. They are fantastic and showed they hadn't forgotten about me.

"A few injured players are coming back and the manager has options. Being out has been frustrating because three months without playing is a long time.

"There is still a lot that could go right for us this season because there are still a lot of things to be decided. It is vital to be available and play my part. I never set a date for my comeback and I will sit down with Rafa and discuss what happens now. We will see about City. Turin? Of course I would love to be involved.

"It was a great performance on Tuesday. The atmosphere was incredible and although in the end the result could have been better we are still confident for the second leg."
