Sami wishes to stay at Anfield

Officials of Liverpool Football Club have dismissed the speculation of Sami Hyypia moving to Roma in the summer as ‘absolute rubbish’.

The Finnish defender, who has another year on his contract, has stated, his desire is to stay on Merseyside.

He said: "I want to stay at Liverpool, there is no doubt about that. We will see what happens. There have been no talks yet but I have a year left on my contract and I am doing my best. That is all I can do. I am a professional and I want to stay."

Sami who has for the first time in his career spent time on the subs bench is confident he can regain his place and still has a lot to offer.

He told liverpoolfc.tv:

"When I go onto the pitch I do all that I can and try and play as well as I can," he added. "That's how it is.

"I don't know if I've anything to prove to anybody. In football, you are on the bench sometimes and then when you play you have to try and show people what you can do.

"Of course, for me this is the first time in my whole career that I have experienced sitting on the bench. Every player likes to play, but I can understand the decisions.

"He is the manager and when he puts me in the team I will always try and do my best. I consider myself a good professional and will do a job when needed."
