Europes 3rd best player will line up against Sunderland tonight in a bid to take the Reds up to joint 4th place in the Premiership. Gerrard, was today, hailed one of the best players in the world.

Rafa Benitez thinks that Steven Gerrard will capture the top award in the near future.

He said:

"I am really proud of Stevie's achievement, but I thought maybe he might win," said Benitez.

"To finish in the top three is a fantastic situation for him. But I hope he will be the winner next year.

"I thought he might win this year because he played in the Champions League final in three different positions and played really well in all of them.

"For me he is one of the best players in the world.

"But Ronaldinho is a very good player also and Frank Lampard.

"With Stevie, Frank Lampard and Thierry Henry in three of the first four places it shows the standard of the Premiership is really high."
