WARNOCK DELIGHTED WITH FIRST GOAL

Stephen Warnocks is overjoyed at scoring his first goal for Liverpool. The full back had only been on the pitch a few minutes when he scored his well struck goal in to the Kop end.

He said:

"I was overjoyed to score my first Liverpool goal, and to do it in front of the Kop was special," he said.

"I must admit that when Peter Crouch and me were sitting on the bench still with 10 minutes to go, it didn't look like we would both end up scoring.

"All of a sudden we are both on and both on the scoresheet. That was a dream at the Kop end, and something I will enjoy for a while.

"It was good to see the goals shared around. As long as the strikers score it boosts their confidence. It was a perfect night for them with Djibril coming on to make chances, everybody contributed.

"It builds up everyone's confidence and sends them into the next game in a good frame of mind.

"There have been times when we should have beaten teams convincingly, and it hasn't happened. We have been on the end of games when we have lost and shouldn't have, but for a change it all came together."

Warnock though doesn’t hold out any hope of travelling to Germany this summer despite having been in the England squad earlier in the season.

He said: "I am not really thinking about England, I have to cement my place in the Liverpool team and that is something I have not been able to do this season properly.

"If England comes along it will be a bonus, but I can't see that happening. Wayne Bridge came back from injury for Fulham against us and played very well, he's going to be in the squad for definite, and if Ashley Cole is fit then so will he.

"I am not raising my hopes in any way, I just want to play for Liverpool and that's my main objective."
