DALGLISH - RAFA IN RIGHT DIRECTION FOR TITLE CHASE

Kop idol Kenny Dalglish believes that the progress made by Rafael Benitez at Liverpool is so impressive that he believes they can challenge for the title next season.

That’s a great accolade coming from someone who himself led the Reds to three league titles in ’86 ’88 and ’90. Benitez is expected to make improvements to his team in the summer and Kenny expects them to be an even mightier force next year.

Kenny said:

"It looks like Liverpool will finish two spots higher in the league than they did last season, and if they manage to do that again next year then they will be champions”


"They are definitely moving in the right direction and although I am not sure whether they will manage to win the league, Liverpool can certainly compete with anybody on the pitch.

"I am sure Rafael Benitez will make some more signings in the summer and that will only make them stronger."

"I think Rafael has been brilliant for Liverpool and he concentrates solely on the football side of the club which is the most important thing.

"He is only worried about preparing his players for the next match and he lets them get on with their job, so you can't have anything other than admiration for him."

Kenny welcomed Steven Gerrards commitment to the Reds after Real Madrid revealed that he is on their hit list.

"There is no team in the world that wouldn't like Steven Gerrard but unfortunately for them there is only one team that has him and that is Liverpool,"
